Mauricio Pochettino New Spurs Manager

5-year contract. Thought? I think Southampton are in serious trouble next year, especially given that their best players, such as Shaw and Lallana, will likely move on. As for Tottenham, I definitely think this is a step up from Sherwood and even Villas Boas. I fully expect them to play some high pressing and attractive football next year.

Damn, feel bad for Southampton. They are deep crap now. They will probably squeeze as much money as they can out of Lallana, Shaw, and Clyne.

Have you seen the under 21s for Southampton ramaboy10. I'm not calling them crap yet until they get relegated, plus they still got Jay Rodriguez

Giving 5 years ... I don't think he will last . Should have brought Harry back . Firing Harry Redknap was a huge mistake !

Good manager, but bad choice of destination because of the chairman. Hope he succeeds...

I wouldn't mind it happening and then on the other hand I would want Spurs to win. Indecisive

Firing Harry Redknapp was an inevitability after he squandered a 10-point lead over Arsenal whilst having a field day with the media about how he might be the next England boss by the end of the season.

Pochettino is a step forward, as AVB was supposed to be, into a more sophisticated style of football, since we have European ambitions when it comes to getting into the Champions League. Hopefully this time Levy won't listen to cretins, and end up firing this one too.

@Lodatz, I really hope he is given some time as well. I think his man-management skills are a class above Villas Boas. He will be great with young players, but Levy should be careful handing him a large transfer kitty. Pochettino has not spent wisely at Southampton, buying the likes of Gaston Ramirez, Osvaldo and Wanyama, who have failed to impress. Spurs need to be more clever with their spending, having already payed large sums of money on Soldado and Lamela who haven't lived up to expectation.

@TheGame: I agree with you, and I'm hopeful that a more mature and established relationship between Levy and Baldini (our DoF) will result in them not just blowing millions of pounds on 7 players who are, each of them, a gamble.

I can only bloody hope.

But yeah, I think that Poch needs to be given time to build the team into a certain image, with a deliberate tactical style, in the same way he achieved at Southampton. It's not going to be easy switching a dressing room full of youth-team hopefuls eager to prove themselves (i.e Southampton) to a dressing room of players who were bought because they supposedly already were stars (i.e Tottenham).

I'm hoping that the length of the contract, 5 years worth, is an indication of Levy having learned his lessons, and he really does intend to back this chap long-term, despite what a noisy but stupid section of Spurs fans might demand if they don't get the supposed 'Spurs style' of football (as though we're as famous as fu.cking Liverpool, or something).

I'm hoping. :p
