I highly doubt Vidal goes to manchester utd. Unless they pay him insane amounts of money. Same with Hummels. Can Manutd really pay 4 players £250.000/week ?

@KingHenry, yes.
Looks great but imho Rafael Jones and Evans dont deserve to be in there.
I disagree - Rafael, Jones and Evans have every right to play because they work their asses off in every game.
What an interesting formation. I heard that King Louis is planning to try out the 3-5-2 formation as well if we don't grab Mats Hummel's signature before the deadline, then I would say STefan De Vrij would be a much better option. He was very impressive thus far in the World Cup and I can see why our new manager always makes him his first choice for a defender in every international game.
I didn't mean it that way i meant there is much much better players out there suited for united then these.
If you look at the signings of other teams in EPL you might want to get on some heavy backup. You will need more then LVG to beat Moe's Chelsea.
@Heisinburg, absolutely. De Vrij and Bruno Martins are very impressive young defenders and hopefully we sign at least one of them. And in terms of the wages, I would like to point out that in the past year or so we've lost Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra (will leave soon), Scholes and Giggs. That has freed up £445,000/week in wages. Mata, Fellaini, Herrera, and Shaw earn £360,000/week in wages total. So all in all, we can definitely afford 2-3 more world class players to bring in. Not to mention the new contracts with Chevrolet for £50 million/year and the upcoming £60 million/year revenue from Adidas starting next year (equal to Barcelona and Real Madrid combined) . These sponsorship dealing are huge, especially given that our debt has decreased to £350 million, according to last quarter's results. If LVG succeeds at United, commercial revenues would skyrocket further and this club has the chance to become solvent in the next few years. @Salahadin, Idk. I am more concerned with Man City than Chelsea. The pressure will be on Mourinho to deliver this year and he doesn't typically do well under pressure.

LVG wont need transition, i see United strong from next year. I see RVP and Rooney working as hell, hope they enjoyed this year holidays with Moyes....
Strong point : No CL games for United, a great plus for the title race, yes they are title contenders, its United...
De Vrij would be an awesome signing for United, actually.
@TheGame: van Gaal usually likes 4-3-3 variation or a 4-2-3-1 variation. I doubt he will play 3-5-2 with United.
De Vrij will probably come to United sooner or later, however Hummels won't join United.
Van Gaal's formation with Netherlands this WC is just a result of him wirking with what he had. It is not a formation he would use in a club. He is only playing with 5 at the back because that is the best option considering the resources (players) he's got which are many great defenders or defensive players and a lack of quality in the middle and attack.
Van Gaal is probably sticking with the 4-2-3-1 formation or something along those lines, because as much as I like the 5 at the back formation it is very unlikely for him to accommodate United or any EPL club like that.
What I want to see the most about Van Gaal's mannaging is how is he going to place certain players in the squad. We could see he used in this WC a ton of players out of their base position so he may be able to sort out how to play Rooney-RVP-Mata the best way posible.
Formation with what we have now:
looking at what we have now I can see we definitely need another CB. Herrera and Shaw may be young but they used to play regularly on their previous clubs so Ill give them a try in the starting XI
I think Van Gaal is going to give Nani the oportunity of becoming a regular again.
Fantasy/rummored/I hope this happens/Oh god please
@Ashwin and @Tuanis, you both could be right. Van Gaal has said in the past that he prefers a 4-3-3 formation. He is a great tactician and very flexible but at the same time strict and disciplined in his approach. Pragmatic would probably be the best way to describe him.
@TheGame: I think pragmatic is the ideal word.
In actual fact, there used to be a LOT of comparisons between him and Johan Cruyff, but not because they were similar; because they were different. Cruyff was the one who held that adhering to an ideal is preferable, no matter what, whereas Van Gaal epitomized the concept of working with what he has, energizing it and inspiring players.
He's more like Mourinho than Guardiola, to put that into modern-day equivalents. Bother are equally admirable, just different. So to is was with Cruyff and van Gaal, and LvG is the one still working.
Ultimately, he's a great choice, and I expect United to rise again strongly this year. Winning the FA Cup is probably a minimum expectation to demand, as a United fan.

Exactly.
@Lodatz: Mourinho is more like van Gaal. Mourinho was van Gaal's assistant.
I do not speak for other United fans, but our priority is top 4 minimum this season. Because if we miss out on UCL next season, that will not bode well for the club in terms of revenue.

Did you guys see the 3-4-3 master display against Brazil? Unorthodox? Yes. But effective? Very. Brazil had little to no answers for the three center backs. As a United fan, I am very excited to see what Van Gaal does this season.
I don't think you will get Hummels or Pogba, on SkySports there is a lot of talking about Di Maria, I can imagine:
RVP
Di maria Rooney Mata
Herrera Carrick
This may be scary United once again.
Brazil were just too easy to shut down. All Van Gaal made his players do is press the defenders down so that they can't play any long balls. Because Brazil have no quality in their midfield. Almost no play-making skills or flair. Oscar was perhaps the only exception.
+1 @dynastian
Oscar was chasing every ball but I think he missed Neymar . If you notice every Chelsea player ( except Luiz he is 50/50 ) is very disciplined and organized . Not bragging but Mourinho did some good polishing on those players .
This is assuming we purchase Hummels and Vidal. Given what we seen with LVG's team in this years WC, I think United will be playing a 3-4-3 formation. With the introduction of wing-backs, this formation is very attack-oriented.
