Did not want to bring it up , but I think I should . Nothing to take away from victory. But don't you think that Fellaini and Matas goals were offsides and sort of turned the game upside down ?

United were still much better and performance fully wise deserved victory .

I can't wait for next week ! It will be amazing match . That is the type of United I like chelsea to play against not the one we played against last season .

Mata's goal was definitely offside. Fellaini's was debatable.

Also, to be fair Kompany deserved to be sent off. Not only that, but we were playing 10 v. 11 for about the last 6 minutes of the game. Otherwise, City would not have made that last goal.

I look at things as chain of events . If I did not comment on this thread regarding offside most likely no one else would have .

So, if Fellaini goal would not have counted Kompany's incident most likely would not happened .

Kompanys challenge is witnessed weekly in EPL and a lot of times goes punished with simple foul or yellow let alone red . ( talking about EPL ) . It was completely with clear intentions to tackle the ball rather than take out player. Challenge is very rough and aggressive but I thought referee did right thing to discuss it first with assistant and then give yellow .

As far Fellaini I have another picture .

Either way United played much better but it is always that better performance that wins games .

@Marcus: In that second pic, ball's off the ground...meaning, that cross was made...Fellaini was onside before the ball was off the ground. Even if he was, it was only by a whisker, and there have been much worse off-sides than that. The ref would not have called it off side in any other game either ...its hard to see for the linesman in the real game.

@Marcus, that's the same pic, just a different angle. He was just onside. Intentions matter very little in football if the tackle is possibly career-ending. However, in this case he didn't even touch the ball and studs were up meaning he did want to take Blind out.

I agree that this call was very tough one to make , so human error is acceptable .

One thing is for sure , United just signed Pelegrinis contract termination .

Sometimes such aggressive tackles come out very clean . Question is do you warn players not to make them because they can end being like the one with Kompany . I personally from playing football see such tackles often ( sunday leagues ) and some are miss and some end being pretty awesome . I never seen guy getting a straight red for similar tackle though .

Let alone having studs up...he had his entire leg up. That is a definite Red.

  • Lol.

"Sometimes such aggressive tackles come out very clean"

  • There's a difference between aggressive tackle and reckless tackle.

@ashwin

I think football is becoming soft . I don't like it . Many past great players would find themselves today with label as dirty football butchers . I can see why red can be given but I still think yellow should be enough .

I remember few years ago Arsene Wenger raising this issue . Here is his comments on such tackles .
I am 100% agree with him ! That is one of the main reasons why I love EPL !

Sir Alex i am sure also agrees with him 100% just at that time he was playing his usual politics with media and refs. Just like Jose does it too , but sure will support what Wenger said and many other epl managers .

There is a difference between being physical, and taking someone's leg out. Its a fine line.

Was there ever any doubt that United would win???

Mata was clearly offside, but the Fellaini incident was a 50/50 call I'd say, I don't blame the linesman for this. When in doubt, for the accused. As for Kompany, that's a red card for me as he was having his studs up and didn't even touch the ball. Idiotic challenge.

Kompany is biggest disappointment this season for me in City's squad, but I ain't even mad.

Especially when he's considered to be the best CB in the league. Koscielny and Terry are way above him imo.
