In 2011, Messi won 5 trophies, including La Liga, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, was the MOTM in the CL final, and finished the year as that competition's top scorer.

In 2012, Messi broke a worldwide goal-scoring record that no-one had come close to breaking in over 40 years.

These are achievements worthy of the Ballon d'Or, regardless of who should have won in 2010.

@Dynas: I am a moderator but I try to use my mod "powers" to ban and delete comments that are not exactly trolling but that are offensive. I try also to as fair as possible and it is not always that easy to delete a comment.

@Tiki: I know there was no world cup in 2011 that is why I cleared out the award "periods" in which each player should have been given it. I just think Casillas is one of the best keepers in history of football and that he deserves an award for what he did and achieved in the world cup.
