Completely agree with this guy. Unless we go 4-4-2, I don't see a reason for us to play with two strikers.

nice video, I still think a 4312 is the right formation but we should definitely play mata there. The right formation would be the one that makes the team play the best, trying out a 4231 could work out great depending on who they play in each position. Deciding where to play each player, specially Di Maria is key to the team's performance.

4312 - Three mids with cam and two strikers.

herrera carrick blind

Di Maria/ Mata

Wazza Falcao/RVP might work seems a good way forward.

I hear we are switching to 4-3-3 against Sunderland.

Before LVG came to United, I really thought he was going to implement the 4-3-3 style of Barcelona. According to his own words, that was his most favored formation. I think we should give it a try, considering that last season we did not have the quality of Di Maria on the wings or the midfield combination of Blind and Herrera.

EDIT: And if you want Rooney to play deeper, just switch him out for Mata and bring on Falcao or RVP.

I'd say that 3-5-2 was bad in the second half but with some tweaking looks like LVG found the way.

I personally want a 4-3-3 with 2 holding mids in Blind and Carrick with Herrera/Mata as the CAM (this is the same as 4-2-3-1) or a 4-4-2 with Janujaz and DiMaria/Young on the wings. The problem we have so far this year is we are lacking that one player who will put in that key pass in the final third and a lot of miscommunication between strikers and midfielders. DiMaria and Falcao/Persie have never been on the same page. Rooney and the strikers have not been on the same page either. Seems that Mata and Herrera are on the same page, but not Herrera and DiMaria or other players. Fellaini while he has proven what he can do, can not do that CDM job, which he is physically suited for. Personally, I'd still prefer the 4-4-2 as that will get the best out of this team with Rooney and Falcao as strikers. A 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 can be used for specific teams like Liverpool or City. And Smalling has been playing very well. I don't mind picking him instead of Rojo, and McNair instead of Valencia.

Di Maria on the wing is ridiculously inconsistent...

He cost United a record fee because of his performances in central midfield, not in the wing. He was wasteful and inconsistent in the wing, so much that Mourinho said he "plays better when he is paid less". If United really want to get the best of di Maria, you must use him as a CM and build the team around that. However, I can't guarantee that this will get the best out of United, but it will certainly get the best out of di Maria.

^ What you said is very true but I think for the wellbeing of the team we should give him a try on the wing. United is known for playing with wingers, not with 2 strikers. Di Maria usted to play very well that position and now with a new club in a new league he could adapt to it again.

I still think 4-3-1-2 is the right formation and could suit better for ManU.
