Leicester City Saga - continue (how did we do on prediction)

Hi guys,

It's only fair to dig up the last discussion we had before the new season. And Leicester has proved lots of us wrong. But how much wrong.

  • On EPL - we (or I) were close, they would struggle
  • On CL - this one is interesting, because they deservedly go through as the top of their table. Amazing. Mixed result.

On that CL thingy

  • For those who predicted them to do well, bravo.
  • For those who thought they would be out early, and go to Europa League. Well, for now IS WRONG, but the fact that they went through awesomely is also because they have a relatively easy group. Let's not pretend EPL is superior here, that group is dead easy. The like of Brugge would barely survive in EPL, and on par with Watford or something. Anyway, now they will meet the 2nd of other tables, except Real, they can continue to progress I think

Do you think they can make history???????? or got crushed the next round (if they meet Real) :D

Last thread:
How would Leicester City do next season

Sorry I gotta start a new thread because the last thread had some heat discussion and should be continue on their own there.

i hardly believe they can survive on round 16.. top 2 each group aint small team.. i think they will drop out on round 16 though.. regarding PL, all top teams are back on track so cant see them getting through any of those 6 giants.. But, seeing that they do well on UCL group stage is OUTSTANDING..

I predicted them to have an easy group wich was easy to predict since the PL holders are automatically in pot 1 and avoid 90% of the big guns, thats what happened.
I predicted that their last year achievement was a big part of the big guns underrachieving and i still think it, i dont think they would have won nor Spurs being 2nd if Chelsea/City/United/Arsenal/Liverpool were on their past seasons form and i still think it.

But as you know each time i try to make a neutral analysis, the Supremacy PL police department tries to cought me :D and provoke a useless debate based on dreams and BS, maybe i should try to post my points on wikileaks instead of here...

@Tiki Seriously lad, you get so much trouble for you comment on the PL but most of your analysis are actually pretty good. Its a shame people give you hard cause of your reputation.

Anyway, back on topic. Leicester might manage to go to the round of 8 if they manage to get a team who is around their level but I don't think they will advance a lot more than that sadly. Quarter Final would be a sick results though! :D

I think that Leicester are done for the moment they play the Ro16. Look at their possible opponents...

PSG (if Arsenal top the group)
Real Madrid / Borussia Dortmund
Bayern Munchen
Bayer Leverkusen
Sevilla / Juventus

Except for Leverkusen, I see all those teams butchering Leicester like a pig.

@Dynastian

A: PSG is top of the group because of away goals despite the worse goal difference.
B: Benfica/Napoli Besiktas = All playable
D: Bayern = No chance IMO
E: Leverkusen = Pretty decent chance
F: Real/Borussia = If they got Dortmund, I would say they still got some chances to go through
H: Sevilla = Still pretty good chances for them to go through

I predicted that they would get through the group stages, and I also said they would get through the R16. I will never understand why people keep underestimating Leicester City. They'll be treating their R16 game as a once in a lifetime opportunity and sheer passion can get them through. They have a pretty decent chance if they get anybody other than Bayern and Dortmund.

@quizyy, @saatvik: almost agree

I watched their games during the group stage, although they are on top of the table, lots of game they fought their heart out to defend a goal lead or a point. Against such opponents that they faced, those that the like of PSG, Bayern, Real, Borussia, Sevila would harmer.

  • Those big guys: 20%
  • Leverkusen: 40%
  • Benfica, Napoli, Besiktas: they would have an on par chance of 45%.

Mind that 40% is very high of getting through.

But this is football, 10% an already make a different.

@Dynast Have to agree it would be tough, hopefully, they won't meet the like of Madrid or Bayern... right?

@tuan_jinn If they manage a draw away against Sevilla, they could definetly beat at home. Benfica, Napoli, Besikta and Leverkusen against Leicester could really go any way so yeah, they could just make it to the round of 8 in my opinion but no matter what, its never gonna be easy. Also, they could beat PSG but they would need to be very good, very lucky and hope that Paris isn't in form.

Well here is the possible group seconds, excluding City And Arsenal : Bayern, Leverkusen, Dortmund ( if they loose in Bernabeu probable scenario), Sevilla, one of these 3 ( Benfica, Napoli, Besiktas )
I fully agree with Tuan, they must avoid Bayern/Dortmund or Madrid at first place, 40% chance to get a mission impossible draw. Leverkusen/Sevilla wouldn't be a good draw nor the worst. And the group of Napoli/Benfica/Besiktas is not an easy draw but actually it's there where they have the most chances to go through...

At the end like in poker if you can't see wich will be the easiest draw for you, then you are probably the easiest draw for rivals...
Poor away form + lack of experience as negatives, passion and talent as positive, reaching quarters remain possible if they avoid the 2 big guns, but they won't go further...
Edit : just saw dynast comment, i mainly agree with him Leverkusen and Benfica went far lately in CL, Sevilla are pretty good in 2 leg confrontations, deadly at home, Juve game aside with the red card who changed the game. If I was a Leicester fan I would rather go withNapoli inconsistent form or Besiktas who lacks experience, but remains dangerous. At the end, they are clearly underdogs in most of the cases...
