Nice to see the English can still be top at something in their own league.

Uruguay : just write Suarez instead :)
393 goals from non-english players, thats twice more than English players goal-scoring.
Very interesting list, thanks for sharing.

Not really. Foreigners in the EPL have scored more than 2x the amount of goals British players have. Whereas I'm sure that in Spain, Germany, and Italy, the native players score more goals.

EPL 2013-14

186 British goals
393 foreign goals

Ratio is 1:3.11.

From the top 50 goalscorers of La Liga in 2013-14

163 Spaniard goals
194 foreigner goals

That's just from the top 50 scorers. There are more native defenders in La Liga than foreign defenders, so the ratio is 1:2.19 in favor of foreigners (an even ratio of 50:50 would be shown as 1:2, so 1:2.19 is about as close as it can get).

Looks like I was wrong about Germany. Here's the data from the top 50 goalscorers for 2013-14

210 foreigner goals
91 German goals

Ratio almost 1:3.3 in favor of foreigners. Kinda ridiculous.

Serie A 2013-14 Top 50 goalscorers

140 Italian goals
172 foreign goals

Ratio is 1:2.22.

Looks like I was wrong. None of the top 4 leagues feature more native players scoring than foreign players. But the Spanish and Italian leagues have nearly a 50-50 ratio, while for every native goal in England and Germany, 2 or more foreigners score.

@Dynast : The average Spanish player is better than the average English one, or Italian, everyone would agree here.
Just look all the trophies Spain have won in all categories...
I think English teams prefer scouting than forming, and it has a bad effects on the English players level.

@Tiki

It just has a bad effect on their national team. I'm sure there's no difference in skill between the average English player, the average Italian player, and the average Spanish player. Don't forget the likes of Bobby Charlton, Gordon Banks, Geoff Hurst, Bobby Moore, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Alan Shearer, Ted Sheringham, Neville brothers, etc. were all British. Spain just have a ridiculous team right now, but don't have better players than England historically (Gento, Santillana, Puyol, Raul, Morientes, Butragueno, Hierro, Xavi, Iniesta, and Casillas being the ones who come to my mind). And Italy is a nation far better than both England and Spain (Rossi, Zoff, Cannavaro, Totti, Piola, Meazza, Baggio, Pirlo, Buffon, Del Piero, Maldini, Baresi, Nesta just to name a few legends).

There's loads of young lads in England who have bags of talent. They're just not given a good chance to break into the first team because English teams have a preference to bring in talent from abroad. This foreign talent gives them a mixture of different styles of football, which lets English teams have a lot more creativity and flair when attacking than Spanish teams (who prefer more simplistic approaches). But the lack of British players in the squads have a telling effect on the national team, which is visibly seen by us today. Spanish teams use more youngsters than English teams, which is why Spanish youngsters have more time to settle down and improve their game. It's not at all "the average Spanish player is better than te average English or Italian one".

By the way, I didn't post those stats to start a "La Liga is better than EPL/EPL is better than La Liga" debate. I just wanted to see the amount of foreign goalscorers and native goalscorers in each league.

English young players are way too rich for their age. They do not have the hunger to compete , because they get all this cash and bonuses thrown in their face at such a young age. Just one recent example unproven 18 years old Luke Shaw is already valued at 20 million quids . WTF . IF there is no chance in England , those english players should look else where to grow and develop , just like Spanish, German , Italian , French and etc players do . However , again there is no hunger and desire to develop to become star . You would think bringing quality should have raised competition and desire to perform better in English players , but all that is lost in their young ages when they get their multi million dollar contracts . Constant threat of failure and Discipline gets you to be top , and English players lack it big time because they already have made in their lives with that first multi million dollar contract . They do not need to work hard , just stable pay every week will do it .

Ofcourse there are many other factors as well , but I think this one is major .
