Chelsea FC 157 4232

So recently Lampard announced that his two-year stint at NYCFC will be coming to an end as he won't sign a contract extension after this season.

"As my time at NYCFC comes to an end I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years. My teammates have been a pleasure to play alongside. The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing. All the people that work behind the scenes at NYCFC have made it so easy for me to work and settle here. I have very much enjoyed my time, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play for such a great club and in such an incredible city. I leave with many great memories as I embark on the next stage of my career and I’ll be making an announcement very soon." - His Instagram

Lampard scored 15 goals in 31 appearances for New York, in a two-year spell that was interrupted by a loan spell at Manchester City.

Recently he said this in a Q+A...

And now this happened... and yes it is the official Chelsea FC.

Steven Gerrard's has also announced that he's finishing up with the Galaxy and said this

“I am of course disappointed to have not achieved that objective, but I can look back at my time at the club with pride at what we accomplished, including two straight playoff appearances and countless memorable moments on the pitch. As someone who spent the whole of their career in Liverpool, it has been an incredible experience to come to Los Angeles and play for the LA Galaxy. I would like to thank Mr Anschutz, Dan Beckerman, Chris Klein and Bruce Arena for this opportunity. I would also like to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, all of the support staff and most importantly the fans for their fantastic support during my time at Galaxy; I am excited to see this league and this great club continue to grow. I am now looking forward to spending time with my family as I consider the next stage of my career.” - The Guardian.

Would love to see both these legends having some sort of role at the clubs they have given so much to. Hopefully, they do come back.

Who is the greater footballer, Lampard or Gerrard?

The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing.

The NYCFC fans booed him his entire first season for not putting forth a worthwhile effort. Stop being full of crap Lampard.

Look, I respect these guys as European legends, but honestly they were average or below-average MLS starters for two teams that generally did better when they weren't in the lineup. Lampard did have a strong finish to this season, but he did not "turn down an offer to stay" NYCFC would've had to have been nuts to offer him an extension.

Just look at the comments on this article, nearly all of which I agree with, by people who watch MLS every week.

@Eden17 Lampard or Drogba for future Chelsea manager, who would you want the most? If there is a popular demand for it, I could make a poll about it. ;)

@SunFlash, that is quite interesting. I watched an interview a while back which I was going to add when I posted this but couldn't find. I have found it now so here it is. Skip to 1:32, a lot of what he says makes sense, but I guess that's ingoring the die hard fans who want success, and rightly so.

@Emobot, that's an intersting question. I think they'd both make great managers but I'd take Lampard as a manager above Drogba. He has arguably a greater link to the club, and what I like most is his humility and his openness. Drogba is a legend, but I don't know if his sky high self confidence is what I want in a manager. He'd make a great coach for our strikers. Don't underestimate the preseason work he did with Diego when we got him back from Galatasaray. After years of issues up front since Drogba left, it was important that Diego wouldn't flop.

@sunflash so in your opinion lampard should've said that nyc fans are a bunch of idiots? Everybody knows that the mls is a retirement league, i't not like pirlo villa gerrard did anything better, this not your first time trying to have a go at lampard so i hope you stay respectful or don't say anything at all

@chelsea

It's not up to me what he should've said, but I know what he did say was simply factually incorrect.

Pirlo and Gerrard have done equally bad, if not worse. Villa is actually pretty good, and was one of the top goalscorers in the league this season. You all might think MLS is a retirement league, and you may be right. But with the sheer fiscal muscle America has, it's going to work it's way into the global game at somepoint as soon as the country starts to pay attention to soccer - and they already have begun.

I had a go at Lampard when he promised to start the season when NYCFC and then went back on it and extended his loan deal with City. I thought that was a crappy thing to do (although it ended up working out for NYCFC, because it wasn't until Lampard got there that they began a losing streak that made them miss the playoffs). Nevertheless, if NYCFC wasn't City's bitch club, that never would have been acceptable contract-wise, and certainly wasn't acceptable to all the fans who were eager to see him play.

I respect Lampard as a European legend, and don't respect him at all as a person or as an MLS player. This is not an uncommon opinion across the pond, because respect is earned, and over here he worked for and earned nothing.

@Eden17 Yeah, when you said Lampard as a manager, I first thought in my head, then Drogba should be a coach or something like that. :D Great mind think alike.

@Sunflash @Chelsea8 Sorry for the issue with posting, it say that there is a mistake but you actually only need to refresh the page to see your post once you pressed on "say it".

@sunflash fair enough, i just think that injuries and being old also played a role in lampard's spell in the mls but in his last games he did a fantastic job trying to repay the club by scoring they're first hattrick ever and scoring 15 goals, i think that's pretty amazing for a midfielder who was close to reitiring.
Also i don't think it's lampard fault that city chose to bring him to the premier league, it's ny cities fault that allowed him to go and who wouldn't choose the premier league instead of the mls.

@ emo ok thanks.

Kinda surprised one wouldn't stay in NYC or LA considering they get to play football there and get paid A LOT

@decentk From what I seem to understand, European legend who end up joining MLS team never stay too long with a few exception. Because MLS is most of the time only an excuse for them to end their career a year or two later.

@emo Thierry Henry stayed for 4 years, because it was always his dream to play football in New York City.

@decentk Really? :S I mean, I'm not questioning he stayed 4 year but we're talking about one of the best player ever, New York isn't exactly the place where they play the best football. Anyway, I might exagerate a bit, it seem like Villa and Kaka will be playing a few more year in the MLS so my commentary wasn't really fair. Also, its not like there so many european legend who does goes to the MLS, a few of them also go to China and most end their career in their european club. :P

This was just for a visit, but a job at the Bridge is possible...

Pirlo and Joe Cole joined him for the West Brom game.
