Lampard to stay at City for the rest of the season

The 36-year-old has made a big impact at City since joining the club in August, mainly with the intention to maintain his fitness before linking up with New York City for the Major League Soccer season which begins in March.

Lampard has scored six goals in 17 appearances for the Premier League champions, although he has only started three league games. His initial short-term contract at the Etihad was due to expire on January 1, but an agreement has now been reached for him to remain with City until May.

Lampard, who left Chelsea at the end of last season, will now be available for City’s Premier League game against Sunderland on New Year’s Day and he will continue to be available for all domestic and European games for the remainder of the campaign.

His extended stay with City has added value with Yaya Toure set to go to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, while forwards Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko are both currently injured.

New York have given the move their blessing with director of football Claudio Reyna saying: "Frank is a star and it is no surprise that Manchester City is rewarded by his contributions on the field every single day"

"He is eager to get to New York once his commitment ends in England and will be available to play on arrival as a permanent member of the squad given he will come to us having played at the highest level."

"We are all committed to making sure we build a winning team and that our fans get to enjoy great soccer at every single game."

"The opportunities open in the immediate transfer window combined with our recent successful draft ensure that we can continue to assemble a world class team that will make New York City soccer fans proud."

I hate City, and I wouldn't be surprised if "New York" signed more stars and loaned them to City

@Marcus

You would play a 32-year old striker over a young Benzema, an in-form Higuain, and C. Ronaldo? That's why Raul was being benched. His performances were declining due to his age. What do you expect from him? He was a technical player who used his agility to get around defenders and into open spaces to score. He was no Drogba to use his physical strength. He couldn't last that long. The only reason he lasted at Schalke is because of the immensely offensive-minded style of the Bundesliga giving him great opportunities to flourish. His role under Mourinho might not have been the same as his role under Pellegrini, we would never know (Mou never got to play him properly since he refused to sign another contract after Mou joined).

"supporter of the club who is champion of not respecting legends. "

  • Yes, because I am one of those people at the Bernabeu who whistles my players, right? Rubbish talk as always, Marcus. Enjoy your 5-3 loss, it's fun to see your miserable reaction to it.

This isn't official but City have hinted that he will stay till 2016 so he can be fit for the next MLS season.

@Marcus: Dynast is not the type of person who disses legends. I can vouch for that. I'm sure a lot of people here agree with this. AI don't think he meant what you thought.

EXACTLY !!! So why are you saying that it was Chelsea's board fault that Lampard is at City ? Should we have let Lampard ahead of OScar , Fabregas or Matic ? Or to even place him on the bench, which would have slowed down progress of so many talented young players we have ? See mate , your hypocrite side kicks in , way too often . I think sometimes you miss your own points .

I actually was not pissed at 5-3 reaction at all , I was pissed at your and others disrespectful reactions to our loss . Throwing Banters is fine with me , but throwing insults towards our manager , fans and creating this false image about our club and manager . That is what made me angry .

" Ooh wait lets remember all the players that Madrid dumped like a Sunday Garbadge when they could not get best out of them , or when they barely hit 30s . Sh*t Madrid did not hesitate to throw away their icon , Raul when he wanted to retire at Madrid . Noble much ? Noble club ? Celtic is more noble club than Madrid ever be ."

  • "throwing insults towards our manager , fans and creating this false image about our club and manager . That is what made me angry ."

  • Hypocritical much? Calling me the hypocrite, smh.

OK again let me repeat myself .

We did not let him go or force him out , he left . He would have been bench player with a pay cut , he did not take it . And my rant about Madrid was reaction to you accusing us of dumping our legend . A Madrid fan , accusing us of dumping a legend which we never did . LOL please .

Raul initially wanted to stay for life, when he was at the peak of his career, but in later years, he wasn't as good and others were developing so he asked to leave. Madrid were loyal as they kept him for as long as possible, dishing him out earlier would have been unacceptable. One could argue that Real didn't offer him a longer, better contract before, but Real gave him what he wanted.

The league say the champions have not breached any rules regarding the 36-year-old's registration, but confirmed the player is not required to move to Major League Soccer

Manchester City have "no agreement" with New York City FC over the registration of Frank Lampard, according to the Premier League.

The midfielder joined the new MLS outfit following the expiry of his Chelsea contract and was due to move to America in January after completing a short-term loan with the Premier League champions.

However, Lampard opted to stay at the Etihad Stadium prompting questions over who owns his contract, with City Football Group - owned by Sheikh Mansour - having a controlling stake in the MLS franchise.

Lampard's deal with City was referred to as a "loan" in the summer but the club spoke of his "contract" being extended on December 31 and has another year left to run on any contract with City Football Group.

"Frank Lampard is registered as a Manchester City player until the end of the 2014-15 season," a statement from the Premier League read.

"The Premier League has sought and received assurances from Manchester City that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football Group with New York City FC relating to the player."
