arsenal fans are crying right now!
I'm not saying Jose didn't get involved in the transfers, but huge credit to our Sporting Director, Michael Emenalo, for scouting a lot of these players and approaching their clubs about a deal.
Excellent business from Chelsea. I wish Madrid were more intelligent in transfers like Chelsea are. I'd rather be owned by Abramovic than have Perez as our president.
For me Chelsea is the most succesful English club in Europe last 5 years. Maybe ManCity were better in the league but they couldn't prove themselves in Europe yet.
Well I wouldn't give all the credit to Mourinho. Transfers are regularly only 50% Manager and the other 50% the rest of the Club's entire board of assistants, chairmen and transfer related employees. Deciding who he wants to join/leave the clubs doesnt make him a genius. The real credit should go the the whole club which has done amazing recently.
@Tuanis
Hmm, I agree. Blind credit is often given to Mourinho by Chelsea fans.
^Very true.
Im not referring so specifically about Mourinho or Chelsea. Its just that managers actually have a small part in the whole transfers topic. I believe that a manager cant be judged on the transfers going on in the club. In United's case the past transfer markets have been disastrous and that doesnt make Van Gaal or Moyes bad managers.
Also I think Alex was more on trying to evidence how Mourinho managed to build his very own team with players no one thought would be a key part at Chelsea and without those players which were Chelsea's back bone in previous seasons. That does make Mourinho a genius.
@Tuanis
I disagree. Only Mata has been the backbone for Chelsea in the last couple seasons (you can throw in Lampard too if you want). Cole had been on the decline, Luiz is inconsistent, Lukaku/KdB/Ba barely played, Eto'o has only been there for one season, and Torres was sh*t. Mourinho got rid of the needless, and brought in better players. His only brave change was replacing Mata with Oscar, from what I see.
you guys know that mourinho makes almost all of the decisions a the club?
@Chelsea8
That is not his job description. He is the 'manager', not the sporting director, or the owner, or anything else. He makes managing decisions regarding the team. He has a say in the transfers (an important part), but it is 50-50 between manager and sporting director.
Me approximately 2.5 months ago:
"I am actually convinced that Costa is going to be a good buy for Chelsea, simply because it seems that he really suits Mourinho's style, who always said that he likes a "killer" striker. One who is mentally strong enough to bully defenders and is capable of getting into the face of stubborn, aggressive opposition. Because when it's all said and done, Chelsea did very well against the top teams last year, but they were horrendous against lower opposition, who just sat back and defended most of the time. That was what cost them the title."
"one important aspect of Costa's game that Chelsea's strikers severely lack, and that is killer instinct in front of goal, in the form of conversion rate. And maybe when its all said and done, Chelsea really needed someone to put the damn ball in the net."
Boom.
What are you talking about Tuanis & Dynastian98? Of course the credit goes to Mourinho for all these transfers he is the one that takes the decisions and he is the one that says no or yes. It's all his decisions at the end of everything. It's all his responsibilities and if he fail, he is the only one to blame and gets sacked and no one else.
They mean that it's the people like scouts and sporting directors that bring the player's attention to the club, but yes, he has the final say in the end on whether a player will fit his team or not.
Yeah I know but as you said "He has the final say" + Mourinho is not a random guy who just decided to start a managing career, He knows those players and he knows what he wants. Most of these signings were by him 100%.

+1
@Alex: Aside from Mata and Lukaku, I'm honestly not that surprised by the rest of the names going out. Like Dynast outlines, there were reasons for each of them to be considered a poor bet, moving into a new era.
Of course I agree that he's done simply outstanding work in bringing players IN, though. Chelsea are pretty much monster right now. Let's see how the season progresses.

yeah huge credit to mourinho for spotting the unknown talents of costa, luis and fabregas. You guys are funny. Like tuanis said, the only transfer where he took a risk was mata, and that paid off. The rest is just buying good players you need that the whole world know about. It's not like he recruited any obscure players. But good job on him and the board for pulling off these transfers.
Agree with Tuanis, Dyn and KingHenry :) :). But I still admire Mou, his reputation alone can persuade (almost) any top class player to come
When you get it?
Mourinho has been doing a superb decisions that not any manager in the world would have taken them.
If one said when he arrived that by August a year later we’d have shipped out:
Mata
Lukaku
Luiz
A. Cole
KdB
Lampard
Ba
Torres (Impossible to get rid of and the reason why many managers got sacked at Chelsea)
Eto’o (who was to be picked up)
And brought in:
Matic
Salah
Schurrle (probably Emenalo)
Willian
Diego Costa
Filipe Luis
Drogba
Fabregas
Remy (Almost done)
and almost net spend of 0 with the transfer cash…
You’d probably say shut up with the fantasies…
