Javi Martinez on his way to London

Arsene Wenger keen to add significant signing to bolster midfield, with Gunners approaching German champions about availability of Spain's Javi Martinez
Arsenal have made an enquiry to Bayern Munich for Javi Martinez, with Arsene Wenger having made a new central midfielder one of his two key transfer priorities this summer.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender is also prominent among Arsenal’s midfield targets but, with Martinez having struggled to command a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s new Bayern team, Wenger wants to know whether the Bundesliga champions would be willing to sell.
Despite Martinez’s own preference for midfield, Guardiola has also experimented with him in the centre-back role he once played for Atletico Bilbao. Martinez himself has admitted that his role has “changed somewhat” this season. “I don’t have as much freedom on the field anymore,” he said. “I don’t get forward as often and my game is a little more static. The coach [Guardiola] believes that I can play in any of the central positions and I’ll play where I’m needed.”

What do you think? I think it will be awesome if we get him, but don't know if Wenger will splash 30 millions on him.

@jimbet No. If we sign a new DM, we keep both Arteta and Flamini. They'd be great squad players.

@fabryi I think the myth of Arsene not spending money is rubbish now, he proved last season when he went after Suarez and got Ozil for £42m that he is willing to spend big. I think the biggest question mark is will Martinez be willing to leave Bayern, and if he is, does he want to go to Arsenal over other clubs ? Because we won't be alone after him that's for sure.

I think Martinez would be the best signing possible this summer. Signing a world class DM to me would improve the team even more than signing a striker. But I'm not too optimistic yet, I still remember last season when everyone laughed at us with the Higuain, Gustavo, Suarez stories.

He is perfect for United due to his ability to play CB and CDM, both positions are on high demand right now in the team. Bayer shoudnt be stupid enough to let Kroos and Martinez leave in the same transfer window...

He would certainly be a good replacement for both Carrick and Arteta, respectively. However, I don't see him joining either United or Arsenal this summer.

@KingHenry

'I think the myth of Arsene not spending money is rubbish now, he proved
last season when he went after Suarez and got Ozil for £42m that he is
willing to spend big.'

He only did that because he was forced to by the fans and was under too much pressure.

i know i am not an arsenal fan but here is my opinion

let jenkinson player believe that he is ready to be a premier league player i mean when sagna got injured he filled that role perfectly. Buy lukaku because it looks like he is defo gonna leave chelsea in the summer and it would be funny if you took him from totenham, or better yet let walcott lead the line and invest that money into a solid CDM like song or bender or buy reus from dortmund because i i think that he is looking to leave his club.

That's not a bad idea with Lukaku, but I think we need to buy right back anyway when Sagna leaves.

Javi Martinez would make Arsenal title contenders next year.

Ooh that would be a good one. I'd like to see how Arsenal fares with Martinez.

Gotta give it out to Wenger if he buys Javi. He's been too restricted with his investing in recent years, and I hope Ozil wasn't the last big money transfer to the Emirates.

@fabyri xD I don't think Wenger will want to spend another £40m for a long time.

How about you stop by West London first, Javi? We'll give you a detailed and meaningful tour of Chelsea, from the pitch all the way to the office, where yours truly, Jose Mourinho, will be waiting with a 175k p/w contract.
