He's gotten away with such things plenty of times, along with some diving. It's about time he gets punished.
However, I'd like to point out that this is a different case from Matic's shove. Matic's one was done after play was stopped. Any aggravation made during a dead ball is almost certainly red. In the midst of play, aggravation is more tolerated since tempers are high. This shove should still warrant a yellow for sure, and maybe a red depending on the referee. It's dangerous and rough play that has no place on the pitch.
On a serious note, the refs are terrible (especially this season), it's a scandal that shit like this happens in one of the two best leagues in the world. It's getting out of control at this point, hopefully the FA will implement technology to help the refs asap.
use me as a ref. i could do better
Vertonghen became really d*ck in last 2 seasons with his diving ability and knocking opponents.
There was wrong calls (big) in every game I watched this weekend anyways, it wasn't just one game. I could seriously name a huge list (just of this weekend), but I guess it's not necessary :-d
@juanmata10 agree.
Do you think it is worse to shove hands players face that he falls down or push a g player in the back that he falls down ?
I wonder if they will start a show about " Verthonghens crimes " . He is one sneaky player !
@Marcus maybe he just has something against teams in claret and blue :p
Nemanja Matic red card ban reduced to 2 games from 3. It is just from the FA. His conduct was violent, but it was provoked. He does not deserve to be banned 3 matches for shoving someone down.
@Dynastian imo he doesn't deserve a ban. Should've gotten a yellow instead of a red.
@Horse
Do you read the rules in football? He blatantly jumped up in a dead ball situation and violently shoved down a player. 100% intentional and violent conduct. Used his arms and his legs. That is always a red card.
You know what else is always a red card? Barnes' tackle just seconds before Matic's shove. Guaranteed double red right there. 10 vs. 10 would've been much more even.
Can't disagree with dynastian . if you go strictly by rules leaving out the reasons behind his reaction or sympathy to him then he absolutely deserved that red card . No matter how much of c8nt is Barnes .
@horse Good eye. I see the pattern now . :D
Vertonghen deserved to be punished for that, no way is that not a foul, he isn't even looking at the ball he just takes out noble and this is like matic's red card and so deserved the same punishment especially since it was on the same weekend. Completely different game if totenham went down to 10 men 2-0 down to west ham
Not even yellow
