Wilshere - The No 10 shirt is an honour

Jack Wilshere has spoken of his immense pride after being handed Arsenal’s coveted No 10 shirt.

The
young midfielder is currently nursing an ankle injury which has kept
him out of action for a year but he is back in light training ahead of
the new season.

Wilshere, who has been with the Club since the
age of nine, says that following in the footsteps of some former greats
gives him extra motivation.

"It's such an honour for me,” he told
Arsenal.com. “Getting the No 10 shirt again at the Club means so much
to me as I wore it all through the youth teams at Arsenal.

“It
has a special place for all attacking or creative players. I feel proud
to wear it now after some real Club legends have worn it, such as Dennis
Bergkamp.

“Now I am even more excited about returning to action and honouring the shirt.”

Vermaelen - I'm so proud to be captainThomas Vermaelen has spoken for the first time about his pride at being named Arsenal captain.

The
defender has inherited the armband on a full-time basis following Robin
van Persie's departure, and is delighted to be starting a new chapter
in his career.

"It makes me really happy and proud to be Arsenal
captain - it's a real honour," the Belgian says in his programme notes
for Saturday's match with Sunderland.

"I won't change the way I
am, though. The boss makes you captain because of the way you are, so I
won’t change how I am in the dressing room or outside. I want to lead by
example, and do as well as I can on the pitch.

"Maybe I am not much of a talker away from the pitch, but I want to lead the team through the way I play."

Vermaelen, who skippered previous club Ajax as well as the Belgian
national team on occasion, said he enjoys the responsibility of
captaincy, and paid tribute to his predecessor.

"Every captain is
different, everyone has his own personality and does it in his own
way," he said. "Robin did it really well last year, and of course what
he did on the pitch was great as well.

"But away from that he did a lot of team building, making sure the
team was a real team, and I want to do things like that as well."

Park Chu-Young should move. Now he doesn't have military problems since he won a medal at the olympics.
I have no idea why Arsene Wenger isn't using him. Scored an amazing goal against Bolton.

@man_utd I hope Arsene use him more this season, for me Park is in front of Chamakh in the pecking order.

Well that should give Wilshere some new found confidence coming back from an injury, good for him. Vermaelen was always a captain in my eyes as well.

@ikoiko agreed, when Fabregas left i really thought that the captain was going to be Vermalen.

@man_utd: I completely agree. We've discussed ad naseum about Park being the biggest mystery of Wenger's era. I really, for his sake, hope he leaves this summer. Shame, but I hear Wenger saw something in him he didn't like. Can't tell you what it is.

Wait. What's with ad nauseam and Park? I know d nauseam is something like being sick or annoyed to the point of being nauseated or something. But what do you mean that Wenger saw something in Park he didn't like? Kinda confused. :P
Just thought that the military thing hindered his chances of playing properly.

@man_utd:
1- I doesn't mean I'm annoyed. The term "discussed ad naseum" is equivalent to saying that a subject has been discussed so thoroughly that there is nothing new to say about it (i.e. it's been "beaten to death"). Perhaps, this Wikipedia excerpt will articulate the meaning better than I can: "The sentence, 'This topic has been discussed ad nauseam' signifies that the
topic in question has been discussed extensively, and that those
involved in the discussion have grown tired of it."
2- I'm not sure what it is but I heard that Wenger didn't think his playing style fit into that of the team. It seems that he has admitted a mistake in buying him (he bought him in panic that he had no good strike options... at the time RVP never played as a CF).
3- The military had nothing to do with his playing chances. He, just never got a look in. Many supporters were sad about this because he never even got a chance. But, in the end, we all know better than to question Wenger's judgements on these matters so we all parties have accepted it.
4- I have no doubt that he will  leave this summer. The fact that he no longer has any military obligations will help him find a new club. I wish him the best.
