Is Mesut Ozil to Blame?

I can't help but feel that Mesut Ozil's deeply selfish decision to shoot instead of squaring the ball for a certain goal has cost Real Madrid a place in the final. I find this act even worse having seen big chances missed already in a game where Madrid needed to be clinical. This was also a night for no selfish players but Ozil thought of himself. Making matters worse the shot he did try was crap. It all reminds me of the QF a few years ago against Lyon when Higuain also chose to be incredibly selfish and not square to CR7 for a certain and crucial goal. He chose to shoot and also missed. Real Madrid went out.

Also I must add that where I didn't really notice CR7, I felt the overall performances of Ozil and Di Maria to be a disgrace.

Don't be too harsh. Overall, Ozil is a motor for us. Maybe he should have thought a bit. Nowadays, we criticise the losing team.

If we couldn't score until the 83th minute, the whole attack is at fault.

True but Ozil had the single biggest chance IF he passed. But he was deeply selfish imo.

Can't base it over a what if scenario. Because I could easily say, what if Lewa's brutal shot went off the post and in the goal? Or what if Gundogan nailed the ball in instead of bing incredibly blocked?

No this is different. I'm not saying what if Ozil hit the target and scored. That would just be silly to go on like that. Im talking about a key fundamental selfish decision to go for glory instead of pass for a CERTAIN goal.

Nothing is ever certain. Weidenfeller could have blocked it or the striker could have chocked. Gundogan's strike looked certain to be a goal, but it wasn't.

Who cares? So many other players had so many other chances! Ozil is a great player!! It is Madrids fault for letting in 4 goals in the 1st leg... they would have won 4-0 if Benzema was on the whole game, Higuain missed so many chances in the 1st half!

Your not quite grasping what I'm getting at. Nevermind

Ajax, I fully comprehend, I am trying to show you that its pointless to see it that way and blame the player for not passing. Like Rama said, if anyone is to blame is the enitre team for letting in 4 goals in the first leg.

@ADSY: I don't think your point was all that good, bro. ;)

You can't blame one player for a result, unless the entire game hinged upon their mistake. Ozil could have squared for Ronaldo, sure, but then, Ronaldo could also have scored multiple times anyway. It was, in hindsight, a poor decision on Ozil's part, but, they happen all the time in football, and it wasn't a game-changing/game-winning moment.

Not like Defoe missing against Manchester City last season, in the 89th minute which would have given us 3 points, handed Man United the title, and gotten us into the Champions League.

Thanks a lot, JD. :p
