Is Memphis a lost cause?

He has been on a pretty bad run of form lately and is not improving at all which has gotten me thinking that this could become a disaster. Could he become like Bebe and be a huge flop?

I thinks he tries to do too much he needs to rely on his team mates and there is a lot of pressure on him as well, but however he is still a young player with a big potential

Accomodation in England can be difficult. Some players are instant hits, others need time to get used to the physical side and overall playing style in the BPL. The best example is Özil, whom it took very long to adapt, but he's playing very well now. Obviously, Memphis is a muscled player, but he wasn't pushed around and fouled as much in the Dutch Eredivisie as he's getting now. Plus, the nature of the BPL itself and especially LVG force players to run more (Memphis always looks knackered in the post-match interviews), so that's another thing he needs to get used to. However, you can see that he is a very talented player with loads of potential, but if he learns said things and tries to become more of a team player than he is now (like this seasons' Neymar v last seasons' Neymar), he could turn out to be one of the best players in the world in the next years. Generally, I prefer to judge players after their second year, though.

I agree with JuanMata10 +1. It is all a matter of how much desire he has to reach new heights in his game.

Memphis will find it soon enough. It's not like he's been playing terribly in the interim, he hasn't been awful or anything.

He hasn't reach the expected high, that's for sure.

But I dont think we should blame him entirely, take a step back to our whole system. If a team play that slow and keep passing the ball in the back, the other team will have more time to form their defense formation which results in NO SPACE for wingers. The great ones will creates space for themselves of course, but such system for sure will reduce their capability.

What I see now, is when Memphis has the ball, the defenders are likely to be already ready to deal with him. Thus, what happens then: he or any other mid would have to pass back because it's too tight.

If we play faster, more direct and more creative.. all parties will benefit from it including wingers, center mid etc...

I dont know who to blame now, the coach or the players. I think the coach more.

:(

@Tuan, Agreed on all count. Watching Memphis' highlights from last year, he showed great spacial awareness and always took advantage, making great runs and always finding pockets to work in. But when you watch United games this year, that space simply doesn't exist. The field doesn't get stretched at all.

@mladen I know it may sound kind of dumb because he is definitely not a complete lost cause because he will still do something with his career but I just wanted to know what people thought about the whole situation regarding his performances.

He just needs time. The boy is young, he'll be a superstar in the future. Martial and Memphis will be like the new Rooney and Ronaldo for United.

Nowadays people expect players con come to their club and single-handedly carry the team to winning trophies. Memphis is a world class player, he just needs time to adapt to the league and the team. If United isnt even performing well it would be hard to expect any player to do so.

He's been good. Just not what was expected. And that's not his fault. People are expecting too much and also seeing how good martial,is makes people think he shud b doing more
