If you could get back one player from your club's history...

Who would it be?

The rules:
1) You cannot pick players you already have who are old and say you want him in his prime. It should be an ex-player

2) Its based on your current squad. Think smart. So despite me wanting to see Zola back in his old days playing with this new young team, I already know that we have the likes of Mata, Hazard and Oscar who could compete with him (and probably win).

3) The player you pick will have the same age he was when he first joined your club.

4) Try to pick one player. I understand it will be difficult but try to make a decision. If you cannot then its okay.

Also, it would be great to add the reason why. You dont have to but it would be nice to know why you chose the player you picked.

I thought about this for quite sometime and I have to say, I nearly picked Drogba (it's time to make way for Lukaku). Nearly. My number 1 choice is:

Claude Makélélé:
Hailed by many as one of the greatest defensive midfielders ever, Makelele was by far our best defensive midfielder ever. At the time being Chelsea only have Mikel, Essien, and Ake to be their defensive midfielders. Mikel is great at defending but is nowhere near as good at passing as Makelele was. Actually, Makelele is also MUCH better than Mikel in defending too. Essien is a shadow of himself. And Ake is too young to be a starting defensive midfielder. In fact, Chelsea's DM role has never been the same since Makelele left. But that's not it. Makelele was the best defensive midfielder of last decade. He was so great at his role that they named his role "The Makelele Role". With the Chelsea squad already filled in most areas, but since '08 Chelsea have been in need for a defensive midfielder like Makelele.

Jimmy Greaves or Glen Hoddle. I can't decide which.

Seriously, watch them. You'll thank me later.

Sorry V-man; I'm not trying to flout your rules. I just can't decide. :/ Either of them would be the difference between 5th and a title challenge.

Colin 'The King' Bell.

Superb strength. Would boss the midfield against any team. Would score a shit ton of goals as well.

@Lod: It's okay man. I'll bend the rules a bit just incase some people also can't decide on one player.

@Lodatz lol your answer is the same as mine. It has to be Jimmy Greaves. 132 goals in 169 games for Chelsea, Jimmy Greaves will probably never be surpassed as the most prolific goalscorer the club has ever seen. 13 hat-tricks for the club. He was a very consistent goalscorer 41 goals out of 40 appearances in one league that must be very impressive. He then played for Tottenham for much longer period and kept on scoring more. But that was way long time ago, I only know the stats about him nothing more.

So to be realistic I will pick Drogba or Makélélé in their prime. Because we are in need of a Legendary ST & CDM like them.

Tottenham & Arsenal legend, Sol Campbell.

Way too many to pick from, but with current form i'd take Mata back. Silva Alba Villa and Soldado are right behind Mata at the moment.

From your 2nd point, V, the player we would've had the most use of right now would be a CB, a CM or a LW, so I'd say Carvalho/Pepe, Moutinho/Deco or Hulk/Falcao. Sorry, but I can't pick one of them. :-(

This would be very easy if you were an Ajax fan :/

Forget about that, when you say a player we NEED, I'd actually go with our keeper-legend Vitor Baía. Played over 400 games for us (think he played some good amounts for Barca too).

Ferenc Puskas. Came to us at the ripe old age of 31, and...

... went on to score 242 goals in 262 games. Also the highest scorer of European Cup finals, with 7 goals. Scored 4 goals in the 1960 EC/CL final against Frankfurt at the age of 33, and scored another hat-trick in the 1962 final against Benfica at the age of 35.

Truly, one of the greatest ever. If he can do all that at the age of 35-36, I'd gladly take a 31 year old Puskas into my team any day.

To boot, there was a commemoration at George's funeral. It said,

"Maradona Good. Pele Better. George Best"
