" im 52 years old. and i never missed any important football match at any big league or international in whole my life until about 2007-2008. i've witnessed them all from Pele to Maradona to Ronaldo. now i only watch the world cups. football nowdays is so ridiculously bad that i don't even want to waste my time watching any match. kids nowdays are crazy about messi and cr7 because this is all what they know. if messi and cr7 were playing like they do now at the time of, Ronaldo. they would never have achieved 1 ballon dor. they would just be good players. yes i dare to say that football's golden age is over. soon it will start to go down and all the way (back to basics) and im talking about the players quality here. as for the tactical side it will always develop and improve. the reason for this breakdown in my opinion is what the world have become to in this time. people in general are more materialistic. they dont play for the love of the game anymore, even if they think they do. because the passion is lost. they do it more to become superstars and celebrities. in other words (ego issues) i think this explains everything. but the kids nowdays can't understand this, because they havn't lived in our era. they think their generation is the shit. and thats the only reason why they think cr7 and messi are the best."

Found this comment on video , not the best way written but perfectly illustrates my opinion about modern football .

Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo definitely play for "status"...eyes roll. We get it. Maybe 15 year old kids do not, but those of our age (28 years old) can appreciate those who contribute for the love of the game with class. and how is El Phenomenon not a mercenary?. Guy doesn't stay in shape, parties all the time, issues with training, and that is suppose to be the golden generation?

I don't buy it. It's old timers who always believe everything was better in the past. I'll take CR7 who commits to fitness, training, constantly improving (29 year old CR7 is leagues above a 24 year old CR7), which shows his commitment to the game and fitness.

CR7 was already a big celebrity at a young age, he could have just kept at his current form and still would have been a great player. But the guy COMMITS to improvement. You see it in the end product. With every step he takes you notice how hard he is still working. You can even see it in his demeanor.

Ronaldo and Messi rivalry created the most consistent 2 players in Football History. They may not score Zlatan goals but nobody has been that consistent more than 3 years in whole Football History...

15 Goals in CL by Messi, Ronaldo just broke this incredible record this year, i believe Suarez needs to come to la Liga to get an extra motivation to the incredible season he had, he seemed dropping form at the end since there is nobody to match his stats, i believe he can reach their level in the right team with the right motivation.

Well, the only thing i can blame Zlatan for is his failure to play even a CL final, he had several chances to accomplish a big Achievement ( What Drogba did brilliantly in 2012 for example )....

Ronaldo 9 has one of the best potential in Football History if not the best, but he didnt train as hard as Ronaldo/Messi. Maybe because he didnt have to compete individually with another champion, he did what was asked for him, but Ronaldo prooved to be a winner in many occasions specially in World cup...

Zlatan career seems to lack something to established as one of the best players in History, like winning a CL or scoring in big big games or maybe eleminate a big nation from World cup.

What i find stupid is judging players from compilations videos, Etoo is less recognized than Zlatan but he has won 4 CL,
4 Freaking champions league titles with 3 different teams, he scored in 2 finals important goals and had an incredible winning mentality, but a scorpion kick for mass Football fans is better than a 90 min pressing and sacrifice...

Maybe if you did this thread with Etoo instead of Zlatan, your point would be more valid.

A healthy Sergio Aguero can more than match Suarez's tally in the EPL.

As for Zlatan, he's one of the most talented players of his generation, but obviously far from the best. Pretty goals aren't all that there is to the game (in fact, Ronaldo and Messi score goals just as attractive as Zlatan does). I believe that Cristiano and Leo are two of the very greatest in history, unlike that 52-year-old man who commented in the video (check Marcus' comment in quotes).

He's right about one thing. Players don't play for the love of the game anymore. They play for the money. But anyone who says that Ronaldo and Messi play for the money instead of the game is quite foolish. If they truly did play for the money, why would the two of them strive to be the best? Why would they give it their all game-in, game-out? Why would they cry when their team loses? It's because they love football, and they love to win.

I think that man is being too delusional. If the majority of pundits and former players speak of Cristiano and Messi as two of the greatest ever, what does the opinion of one 52-year-old man mean? Their goal-scoring record in and of itself is insane. No one in the last 30 years, bar O Fenomeno and Van Basten, has been able to consistently match their goal-scoring record. Seriously, 50+ goals per season as a winger? 91 goals in a calendar year? Highest ever scorer at FC Barcelona! The only man in Real Madrid's top 5 goalscorers to average more goals than games played. That should speak for itself.

There's a reason that people say Maradona and Pele would not find it as easy to play in modern tactics. Pele's 700 official goals in Brazil would pale in comparison to Messi's by the time Messi completes his career. 700 goals in the 1960's is equivalent to about 450 goals in the modern era. Both Ronaldo and Messi have eclipsed that (Ronaldo is almost there. He has 423 goals right now).

Zlatan had a chance to win CL at Barça, the main reason why he signed. We gave Inter Etoo while he was directly involved in 6 Barça titles, pichichi of la liga with very important goals, and of course the oppener soon goal against one of the strongest United of History. I belive the game would be completely different without Etoo, Samuel went to Inter and made Guardiola regrets his choices in semi-final while Zlatan failed once again to be decisive in a big game...
Zlatan is not underrated but Etoo is.

You are right about Aguero, he has the potential but not the determination.
Ronaldo running at inury time to score his third goal is something few players are able to do when the job is done.

I rate Aguero very high, but we should judge players for what they achieved not for what they could achieve, Aguero potential is amazing, he was incredible at 17 yo, but he needs to do more than he is doing.

I agree with you dynast, i cant just agree about the relation between greatness and beautiful goals, i believe more in sucess/Greatness

Oh yeah, watching Aguero play is a joy. I've seen the guy play since he first came to Atletico Madrid, and I can tell you that he's improving by leaps and bounds at Manchester City. The difference from his first two seasons at City to now is just incredible.
