In the "Willian signs..." thread there were comments about "blind Chelsea fans" and people who "support Roman its a cult". Well I'd like to say that I know Roman is corrupt. I know he made dirty money and rose to power by befriending Yeltsin and Putin. And I don't like the fact we have a corrupt owner. But there is much more to it for a Chelsea fan. Or just any fan of a corrupt club.
Roman is corrupt. Russia is corrupt. From top to bottom, all of Russia is corrupt and it has been like that since the USSR's decline. If anyone knows a bit about the fall of the Soviet Union and some modern history they should know that after the collapse, Russia became a financial jungle. And Roman was shrewd, clever, and savvy enough to survive one of the toughest periods of a Russian business man. If Roman didn't exist, another Russian would have been there to take his spot in Russian power. That is Russia.
With the club, many people say (not in this forum) that Chelsea fans should protest about Roman being our owner and that we should try to kick him out. Honestly, the man who got us all these trophies and talented players and because of his corruption we should kick him out? I guess Berlusconi should leave Milan and Perez should leave Madrid despite their great job in making the club much better business and football wise? F*ck no. Keep an owner's personal life away from their club. There are a plethora of corrupt figures in football. Everyone gets it by now and its not something anyone likes to bring up really.
I do not support the way Roman makes his money. It's a horrible and dirty way he makes the money but you know what, football is filled corruption. Which also brings me to another thing; when you hear football and corruption together what do you think of first excluding FIFA? The answer is usually Roman and Chelsea. And in fact, Roman is probably one of the most charitable people who have connections with corruption. Remember, that doesn't mean I'm defending him. I'm just saying he shouldn't be the first guy you think of in football corruption. Also, it's something us Chelsea fans have coped with and laughed off, but to think we support him as if it is a cult is wrong and extremely naive of you.
Matthew Syed's video is complete and utter b*llshit. He speaks well in the beginning about how Roman rose to power but the rest is not true. Even the one about the Manchester City owners is just words coming out of his ass. The man doesn't know what he is saying and he shouldn't be seen as a hero for bringing up assumptions. Assumptions that he can't back up because he has no evidence. Like when he says how Roman ran away behind Chelsea because Putin was after him? That's pathetic, Roman and Putin are very close (corrupt) friends and that part proves he doesn't know what he is saying.
