How the Premier League table would look like if only goals by English players counted.

It's interesting but this has got to be the most irrelevant football statistic I've seen in a while.

@Ven

It's not irrelevant. It shows the ratio and dependence of imports and home-grown players of clubs. Liverpool literally had their goals halved when only English goals were counted. Compared to the others, Chelsea only scored 10 goals, and Manchester City scored a miserable 4. It's quite relevant for those who care. It's sure as hell relevant to the fans of the English national team.

I'll try and do something similar with Spanish goals in La Liga if I can get enough data soon.

@Dyn: Homegrown players can also be non-English players btw.

This is the same as changing the La Liga table of 2009-2011 for only Spanish players. Messi and Ronaldo aren't Spanish but that doesn't mean shit in football. We're all the same no matter the nationality. A league without foreign players and foreign managers is a shit league.

By the way, the English FA only have themselves to blame for how crap the England NT is. Not the clubs. They can't force Chelsea or City to play too many overrated England players. It ruins the quality of the league and the squad. If they want to start making fantastic players year in year out then they should look at how the Spanish FA work on youth academies.

@Dynastian

But don't you think if it WAS English players only City and Chelsea wouldn't have splashged the cash on players like Rooney and Lallana?

@Ven

I won't blame the clubs. You're right, it's the English FA's fault, and a league without foreign players and managers is indeed a sh*t league.

But, if a league does not have a sufficient amount of players from their own nation, doesn't that mean that the league is losing sight of it's own identity? What is the English style of football? Because the styles played out by the English teams in the EPL are carried out by players who are mostly foreign, and managers that are mostly foreign (well, the more successful ones anyway. I'm talking about Pelegrini, Wenger, Mourinho, Villas-Boas, and the exception - Rodgers). The English game is slowly fading away to bring in a mixture of foreign styles. You end up having a little bit of Spanish, a little bit of Italian, and a little bit of English all mixed together.

good to see west ham good at something and i think that it is ridiculous that so many teams have so little english players in their teams. I mean all the big teams do is invest in foreign players and completely forget about the youth academy.
