I didn't see him play much last year, but from what I did see his performances were somewhat dis-satisfactory at times. He has plenty of potential though and only 22.

@TG: It's true, but the poor guy also got shunted around filling in wherever was needed, due to injuries. He played from holding mid, to right wing, to attacking mid, and always just as cover, so he never really got a rhythm.
From what I understand, no-one's held that form against him, and we're hoping at least as fans) at he gets a settled run in one position (hopefully playmaker).
If you check out some footage of him at Schalke, you can see what he's capable of when he gets into a groove with the team.
@Lodatz, it is only a good thing you have a versatile player. All great teams have one.
True, but it also helps players to know what they're doing, and what they should be training for.
If Eriksen comes in, I dunno if we'll see much of Holtby at all, now... >.<
Holtby is a fantastic player. I've seen many MANT Schalke games with him and Draxler, and they are one hell of a combo.
He got a nice assist and a great goal tonight, too, against Tbilisi. Check the highlights on FootyRoom. :)
This was earlier in the week, for our U21 game (3-2 to us, final score).
He's been working his way back to mathc fitness after picking up a knock over the summer. maybe we don't need an expensive new creative mid after all..?
