Has United entered a Galacticos era?

Since Mou has been named manager, United has signed one of the best player from several different team, Zlatan on a free from PSG, Pogba from Juve, Bailly from Villareal, Mkhi from BVB, Lukaku from Everton, Matic from Chelsea and now Sanchez from Arsenal. My point is this, doesn't it feel like Manchester United are getting closer and closer from what you would call a Galacticos team? Tell me how you feel about it all, if you believe this is because of Mourinho and if you do think this how United is turning out.

When I see their football it’s a totally different story, only Alexis and maybe Ibra/Pogba are the really big names there.

My presumption below is considering you compare Man united to Galacticos of Real Madrid.

May be you can call entering Galacticos era in term of spending but the quality is far from it (not even close). I know you are trying really hard to make this forum active and fun. I really appreciate it but please don't bring a topic which is unrelated at all (no offense Emo). I found it really funny when you called them Galacticos lol.

Real Madrid brought in players like Luis Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Kaka, and Cristiano Ronaldo all of them won Fifa best player. And players like Roberto Carlos, Makelele, Owen, Beckham, Alonso all of them are considered legends.

Please show me some players who've won Best player of the world or is going to win soon or can be considered/will probably be considered as a legend (Zlatan was already too old, he was free and his impact are none to little this season) in Man United. I don't think Sanchez is on the level of Zidane, brazil Ronaldo, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

@amir_keal

I didn't know you wrote on my wall. Well, I do support Roma but not following them closely. For the question you asked, it's normal for them, they are the Arsenal/Atletico of Serie A. lol

@kyoekar I guess you are right, if compared with Real Galacticos, its not the same at all, however let's say you take the term by its modern meaning as seen on wikipedia:

Galácticos is now often used in a more general sense for a select list of football superstars in any team.

Its already more of what I had in mind. But I guess I should have asked if you people thought was entering an era of signing only superstar and the best player of other team. Galacticos sounded better in my head but obviously, those guys are clearly not all or even at all considered to be the world best. Sorry if I implied the player United signed since Mou arrived were similar to Madrid galacticos, it wasn't really what I meant.

@Eden17 @quikzyyy Yeah, I get what your mean, they are spending like crazy right now and it would be hard to say they don't owe part of their current success to all that money spent. :(

@Emo Yes, I do know what Galacticos means in wiki but I think it's not known wide spread. For me (even though I know the wiki meaning), as soon as I saw your word "Galacticos", the first thing that came across my mind is Ronaldo (brazil), Zidane, Figo and Carlos in white shirts. lol

@kyoekyar Well, I understand your point at least, sorry if it seem ridiculous at first but hopefully, you get that I didn't mean it as a comparison with Real galacticos. ;)

They basically do everything that they hated City for and which Arsenal always dreams of doing.

Fact of the matter is very simple. Football fans aren't as wise as one gives them credit for and average fan couldn't not foreseen at the time that United will need to have major reshuffles after sir Alex leaves. However, the funnier part is that United fans don't even remember that their club was sort of doing what City was doing before just not as aggressive as they do it now. Tables turned and market is a lot different then it was back then but still those purchases by United weren't considered as small fees but record breaking fees. Ofcourse getting a bargain deals still a problem for united.

Here is a simple list of expensive players and major transfer United used to pull and at times bully small teams simply with the weight of the club's history:

  1. Rio Ferdinand
  2. Berbatov
  3. Sebastian Verón : 31 mil . By the way Ronaldo de Lima was just a bit more money around those times.
  4. Wayne Rooney
  5. Anderson
  6. DeGea
  7. Carrick
  8. Nani
  9. Owen Hargreaves
  10. Persie

Hey fees are small compare to our times but In my opinion it was hypocritical from United fans to hate City for what they were doing before they even started it.

@Emo: :D no worry, it has come around so many times, and at this point in time, I believe it's true. LVG did it, Mourinho absolutely doing it, over and over again. And he cried about Pep's spending (our coach is a bit hypocrite)

@Marcus: good point!

Although, the whole discussion doesn't only evolve around money spent... (I am not saying it's right)

I think the majority of MU's fans who have that feeling is that, we are the club with tradition, fan base and stable income for our purchases. Man City just went out of no where and used some money that's somebody got from some crazy investment... Then made a lottttt of noises in Manchester. That's where the whole thing started.

This is similar to Chelsea and PSG by the way.

But that doesn't make it any less than how Bayern bullies the whole Bundesliga or we are spending like crazy, or Real and their Galacticos...

Just my 5 cents :D

@Tuan I for one completely understand what you mean. At least, it never happened out of nowhere. MU alway had good source of income. Still don't think fan should look down on other team just because those team have to ressource to at last compete with them.

Zlatan : end of career.
Pogba : talented youngster.
Matic : hidden worker the opposite of superstar.
Mkhytarian : good player but not superstar.
Lukaku : midtable Franchise player looks like to David Villa transfer.

Only Alexis can be considered as Galactico because he was a big team franchise player.
United doesn’t look slowing down in the mercato, Mou will want to get a stronger XI at the except expense of some players...

For me if there is a team that had a Galactico mercato it’s PSG.
United are trying things, jumping on occasions, we cannot blame Mou for not trying...

@Tiki Thats actually a pretty good analysis though I really wouldn't only consider Pogba only a talented youngster anymore (not really world class either though).

Emo you get a pass cause you have only been watching football for a couple of years...
This Manchester United team is not really a Galactico since Pogba was their own young player that wanted play time and left just so that they buy him later for big price tag, if you push it you could compare Sanchez with Figo since it's a big signing from a rival team and its a big player, but for me that's where it ends since Lukaku is still young and can't be compared to Ronaldo,Zidane,Beckham and so on...

IMO the biggest player they got was Di Maria followed by the rest such as Mata,Pogba and so on but nothing comapred to the buys of Real Madrid.

@Golazo Come on guys, what isn't clear in "I didn't mean Galacticos in the Real Madrid Galacticos sense" but more in the "superstar" sense of the term. I'm sorry about making it sound like a comparison but it wasn't, I already said it for more than 2 or 3 time. :(

Sorry, anyway I meant to say in the recent years IMO Di Maria was the biggest signing not like in all time. It's a strong squad no doubt just needs maybe Griezmann or idk who to make it more of a "wow factor".
