To be honest, I think that when Cannavaro won the Ballon d'Or, that was the last time that any defender will win any award. Everyone sees Messi and Ronaldo. If I was asked who is the best CB in the world right now, I wouldn't know.

Hmm. Does this mean he'll retire or just leave Barcelona?

Goodbye legend :(

On the bright side, this might mean we will finally buy a CB in the summer. Pique-Masch-Bartra is no where near good enough.

@man_utd

I think he is just leaving to a lower level club.

Absolute legend. One of the top bracket defenders of his time, and a great leader and a key man to every success Barcelona has had in the last decade. 24 trophies to his name, the UEFA Europa League is the only trophy that Puyol has not won, and that just goes to show how good Barcelona have been over the last 10 years to always be competing at the Champions League level.

In a team with the likes of Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Deco, van Bronckhorst, Toure, and Henry, Puyol was still the standout leader and inspiration from the back. It was a pleasure to compete with you King Carles, and I hope you have a pleasant future at another club. You will always be remembered as a Barcelona legend.

@Dynastian, at Barcelona Toure was always second to Busquets. At Barcelona he was never what he is at City today.

@Messi

Seriously man, that wasn't my point. My point was that Puyol stood out despite all that massive talent, and was still the leader. That takes something special. I don't care if Toure was more preferred or Busquets, because this thread is about Puyol. If you want to have that discussion with me, let's do it elsewhere.

LEGEND! He's one of the nicest guy on the field, and definitely a model for youngster to follow. I feel sad for Barca, youngster always need captain like him to guide and stand up for when there is hard time... Best wishes Puyol.

@Dynastian Relax man. I was confused about what you said and took it differently than you may have though you wrote it. That is the internet for you, if we were talking in person it would be a whole other story.

Barcelona would have been nothing without him 2006-2012 key player to win all those tittles. He always gave his 110%. Football will miss him but I think it is the right time to retire.
