Goodbye Angel.

I'm probably in the minority of United fans here, but United letting Angel Di Maria go will probably be our biggest mistake this season, and I'm really sad to see his United career end in this manner, after LESS than a year.
There is no denying that United "clicked" after his Arsenal red card with imperious displays against Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea (though we lost this), but there is also no denying that Angel was United's highest chance creator, and assist recorder in the total number of games he played. This is inspite of being shifted about like a tectonic plate as LVG sort his best formation. He played as a center forward, right winger, left winger, left wingback, central midfielder, and attacking midfielder. It's no surprise that his form floundered since he never got the chance to build consistency in a position. I thought the left wing occupied by Ashley Young would have been his this season. A mid three of Di Maria, Memphis and Mata, behind Rooney is as good an attack as any in world football offering pace, guile and creativity, and since we have a midfield now, his defensive duties would be limited. However, it seems now that Van Gaal has simply given up on the Angel.
Maybe he didn't really settle in Manchester, but I'm sure a little love from Van Gaal, Giggs and Co. and the presence of Rojo, Aguero, Demichelis, Zabaleta, and Romero would have helped him this season.
There may have been some behind the scenes handbags that we don't know about, but it is sad to lose someone with the X-factor - that little stardust needed to separate 2nd from 1st. Arsenal have it in Alexis, Chelsea with Eden, City with Aguero, RM with CR7, Barca with Lio, Bayern with Robben, and we are about to gift PSG with ours. In summer where players have been vilified for a lack of loyalty, I'm heartbroken that the club I love has seemingly chosen to discard one of her few truly world class stars.
Here's to you ADM7. I wish I could have seen you more. I'll enjoy you in PSG, and if we meet in the UCL, hopefully you'll have one of your (few) bad days then. Cheers!!

Or maybe you guys were just fortunate to have two managers who were both excellent and able to stay at the club for an extended period of time.

True, but historically we were not exactly great without them.

Manchester United have 60 honours (excluding 2nd Division titles).

Sir Alex has won 38 of them (63%)
Sir Matt has won 13 of them (22%)

In total, a massive 85% of Manchester United's honours have come from either Sir Alex Ferguson or Sir Matt Busby.

I think that it's fair to agree with your comment: "historically we were not exactly great without them".

Decent amount of money, our flop only cost us 7m + wages so in the end wasn't that bad...

Injury; adaptation; language; life style; tactics; position; happiness; motivation... I dont know which of these influenced his bad form at Manchester but im sure last year wasnt the Angel we used to know. Maybe they should have kept him for one more year...
He wasnt good with Argentina too, hope he will reach his top form soon wherever he plays...

@Tuanis, yes I agree. His market value is 35 mil right now so PSG are also overpaying.

Angel Di Maria admitted that his family were unhappy in the north-west following an attempted break-in at their Cheshire home. "I'm happy because I know my wife and child will be happy in Paris," he said. "It wasn't just my decision to leave. If I left it was also because they decided to sell me." He added: "The three parties agreed. Me, Manchester United and PSG agreed the deal."

Ancelotti on Di Maria ahead of move to Man Utd in 2014: "Di Maria didn't want to fight for his place, but make more money."

I actually have more respect for what Moyes did for the club than what Di Maria actually did. Moyes managed to still show respect to the fans and the club even when they weren't behind him, while Di Maria did nothing like that when most of the fans were behind him. Di Maria is the real specialist in failure.

keeping him another season would have been a big risk as his value could drop significantly with another poor season, PSG were paying for most of the mess of transfer United had last season so It was an offer we couldn't refuse..

Now with those 40+ millions we can surely sign a replace for him, even more than that. That money helps a lot to get the few players we still need. Gaitan, Pedro, Mr. Whichever CB...

Now imagine how well United would've performed if di Maria was actually integrated into the team properly and played in his proper position.

Come on... Dont blame this on the "system" or on Van Gaal. Stats can be misleading and Di Maria played horrible on all but maybe 2 games both playing as winger or as midfielder.
