Goal of the Week (Ending Oct 4) (Europe)

As promised, because of how many games (and therefore goals) are taking place at this part of the season, I'm going to break down the GOTW context into League and Europe for a few months.

And, what a show we got, across Europe, this week, eh? Some amazing performances, some surprise upsets, and some beat-downs, too. Here are some honorable mentions:

MITROGLOU (Olympiacos) vs Anderlecht
DRAXLER (Schalke 04) vs FC Basel
DI MARIA (Real Madrid) vs FC Copenhagen
RONALDO (Real Madrid) vs FC Copenhagen (for DI MARIA's amazing assist)
MIERZEJEWSKI (Trabzonspor) vs Lazio
POWELL (Wigan) vs Maribor

I was sooooooo tempted to put Ronaldo's second goal against Copenhagen in there, simply because of how amazing Di Maria's assist was, but, it just wouldn't be fair to the others to leave them out because of an assist. ;)

So, without further ado, the Top 3:

  1. DEPAY (PSV Eindhoven) vs Chernomorets

What a stunning shot! Seriously, footballing beauty, right here....

Unfortunately, this is the best YouTube I could find of it. You can also see it on the FR highlights, at:

What a way to win the game in injury time! Bale, eat your heart out. ;) Wonderful strike!

  1. OZIL (Arsenal) vs Napoli

Much as it pains me to showcase a Gooner, this is so worth it. Exquisite technique? Yes please. Inch-perfect volley, starting to earn that 42m price-tag already.

No bias here. I sincerely think Özil's was the most difficult. The ball was in mid-bounce when he placed it into the net, and the cross was a fast one. The other goals were great but were basic strikes IMO.

Ozil's is the most unique and beautiful goal on the list. I feel sorry for you Lodatz, it's really painful for me as well when one of your guys scores a beautiful goal (eriksen's goal last week is an example)
