Gerardo Martino: Argentina appoint former Barcelona boss

Former Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has been appointed the new
manager of World Cup finalists Argentina, replacing Alejandro Sabella.

Martino, 51, left Barca at the end of last season after
one year which saw the Catalans fail to win a major trophy for the
first time since 2007-08.

He was manager of Paraguay between 2006 and 2011 and took them to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.

Sabella left after the

1-0 defeat by Germany in the World Cup final.

Martino

replaced Tito Vilanova at Barcelona in July 2013,

signing a two-year contract at the Nou Camp club.

He oversaw 40 wins in his 59 games in charge of the 2012-13 champions, but failed to deliver domestic or European success.

Barcelona exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, when they lost to Atletico Madrid.

They also lost to Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey. Barcelona appointed their

former midfielder Luis Enrique

as Martino's replacement.

Martino will be formally presented as new manager of Argentina on Thursday.

I think Martino was really good. If he had the signings that barca got now he would do even better.

@ liomessi simeone is gonna replace LVG at old trafford cos I for sure know LVG will be a huge disappointment and will fail to impress as he is a fat lazy coach. sacking Moyes was a bad decision ( not trollin ) cos he was there for less than 10 months even Fergie was 5hit at united for around 2 years. Also with poor defenders such as Evans, Rafael, Jones, Smalling you cannot think more than united leaking a large amount of goals this coming season.
