I won't be sorry to see him go, to be honest. I mean, staying true and loyal to one club when you could have gone elsewhere is great and everything, but when I look at someone like Steven Gerrard, who also stayed at one club for his entire top-level career, consistently being one of the best players in the world and winning a Champions League tournament almost single-handedly, and also wasn't a dirty player, then that's what I call a true legend. Shame how he was treated when he announced his retirement from Liverpool, not least of which on this very forum.

As for Steven Gerrard? Well, he took Liverpool to two CL finals and won the first. He also won a UEFA Cup, two FA Cups and a UEFA Super Cup. He appeared in the UEFA team of the year for 3 years in a row (2005-2007) and in the FIFPro World XI for 3 years in a row (2007-2009), which are things that Totti didn't manage to achieve even once. Gerrard was also in the PL team of the year 8 times in 14 years (including a consecutive run from 2004-2009) during the period when the PL was indisputedly the best league in the world, and even made the Euro 2012 team of the tournament.

I pointed out that the difference between them was that Gerrard was a clean player, whereas Totti was not. This is the reason why I don't call Totti a legend, even though I already said he was a greatly talented player and a club legend to Roma. He has disgraced the game too many times for me to consider him as a true legend, and just because Messi spent 20 seconds wishing him a happy birthday on Twitter doesn't really show otherwise.
