For Manchester United : Antoine Griezmann = CL qualification.

Antoine Griezmann departure price is known, more than Pogba means over 110 million euros and there is only one possible destination ( or two less likely ) I will try to explain why :

Main reasons :

  • Griezmann cant go to Barca/Real, The direct move to Madrid would be seen as a club betrayal and his spell at the City of Madrid will be a nightmare. At Barca he won't get the freedom he has because Messi is playing that role.
  • He Is not in Bayern Munchen transfer papers and the depth Bayern have is huge so his signing is not a priority atm.
  • A return to France ? Only at Paris but financial fair play put Paris in a situation where it's hard to put 110m in the table for a player.
  • United is the richest club in 2017, has one of the largest fans arround the world and would treble his salary and explode his marketing earnings.
  • If he does 30% at United what he is doing at Atletico, He would have more recognition from world of Football and Specially from fans because experts rate him very high.
  • His homie Pogba Is very happy atm, He has a huge contract for his age, and the Pogmania if it is not seen yet on the pitch is invading social networks, making Paul and United both financially benefit from it. So Griezmann who is from the same generation and very present in social networks would want to extend his followers and marketing impact.
  • Sportively we cant say that United is an upgrade to Antoine, because at Atletico and under Simeone, Antoine is motivated and put in the best conditions to achieve on the field, but in Spain his trophies hopes are very little comparing to United competing with teams under construction.
  • Making United " great again " will be a true challenge for president Griezmann and will lead him to glory and wealth, also its easier to contend for BO having a large visibility and worldwide fans comparing to what he has atm.
  • He will be directly a starter and would take the keys of the squad in a short period, with all my respect to some United players, none would be a danger for his starting place.

BUT it's not done yet for other reasons :

  • Griezmann feels at home at Atletico, and love his actual mentor EL Cholo.
  • He Is not the player would love to change clubs and pretty loyal.
  • Sportive over financial, thats Antoine he earns enough in his eyes and he is focused in the sportive. His agent and family will push him for a move but until now he always said Atleti is my home.
  • No CL = No Antoine, as simple as that he is no Pogba. And he clearly want to be the best in the near future so his pretenders are warned.
  • Atletico cant refuse a 120m offer, but Antoine can refuse a move and fans will then put pressure for the direction to stay.
  • Chelsea is the other club that can attract him, they do not have Pogba as an argument for Grizou, but Conte's management is similar to EL Cholo, it worked with Costa and it will probably work with Griezmann.

The salary given by United is known, they will give him the number 7 and Mourinho is making place for him but then the sportive should follow.

Some facts, some speculations, some personal opinions, what do you think ?

Well I suppose that their ventures since Fergie's retirement deserves that comment... at least for the time being.

Additionally, he was joking. I just read the article. He said it to make the reporters laugh.

Griezmann Will go there and become the Franchise player, If Diego Simeone leaves and Atletico respects their tradition to sell their 9 at a high price, I think it could be done but it's up to Griezmann. Atletico Never closed doors for their player, its pretty clear.
If I was Atletico, I would sell Carasco instead. Valuable player, and less matured and sharp in front of goal ( Huge potential but doesn't take best decisions at times ) many clubs want him atm. Griezmann is a Level above.

@juan that's an NBA term of saying he is the main player of a team, the franchise player in a team take last shots in the money time, the team is built arround him and he is upfront in adds.
In modern Football, i thought this expression could be also applied, Ronaldo for instance is Madrid franchise player...

I think that there are no longer any franchise players in the world of football. Ronaldo and Messi were that type of player in their mid-20's, but both Barcelona and Real realize that they won't be playing at this level for much longer. The teams are no longer built around them.

@Dynastian Yeah, but from the show business point of view, every club got themselve their big star who stand above other. Atletico have Griezmann, Bayern have Lewandoski, City have Aguero, Inter have Icardi, Chelsea got Costa and Hazard, Arsenal got Gir... I mean Sanchez, United have Pog (show business point of view, remember) and Zlatan, Spurs got Kane and Alli and it goes on.

This thread is sad. United transfer breaking two records for 4th never used to happen. Its shown a huge downgrade.

@amir_keal They lost the best manager in their history, a generation of some of the best player of MU all got old, were sold, or retired and all that at a time where other team got serious upgrade in term of player, manager and budget. It was alway gonna be a downgrade in my opinion. :(

Well SAF never used to spend where he didn't need to. He bought about 5 world class players, and the rest he developed. Now they are splashing for no reason.

@amir_keal Well, like I said, SAF didn't had to worry too much about his opponent back then in my opinion, they weren't as dangerous as today. Even the weaker team were much less hard to beat. The league level got a lot better nowaday with the money its generated and with the manager they attracted over the time. I feel its a lots harder to delevop player in the PL nowaday but that might just be me, anyway, that would explain why MU feel like they need to buy star player. We also know Woodward is a big fan of big name as well, help the club make money, so its propably play a role.
