No seriously, I didn't think it was anywhere near a red card. Thoughts?

It was a red card because fergie thought brunt could've been killed

It was unnecessary. Accidental or not, it came across as malicious. I don't blame the referee.

I believe it was intentional, but stupid. I don't think a small lob like that is malicious in anyway. If he blasted it, then it would definitely be malicious. But he didn't. I think he deserves a yellow for that, not a red. Red card = three match ban. As Mourinho said, "A three match ban for that? Jesus Christ".

I wouldn't call it a "small lob". It was hit pretty straight and didn't have much of a parabolic motion. When emotions are running high you don't stir up more sh**, because it just exacerbates the situation. What if he had just come up and punched him in the head with equal strength? Would that have deserved a red card? I don't see a difference, especially if it was intentional.

@TheGame

I see what you mean. However, I still stand my ground that it would be a yellow for me. Did you see Costa's grab and Terry's tackle? Both were reds for me. As for Terry, stupid tackles like that are fairly common for defenders and he shouldn't be punished for it outside the match (I believe it should've been a straight red during the match though). However, Costa's brutality is getting ridiculous, and he should straight up be banned from playing a significant number of matches. What do you think?

Completely deserved. You cant shoot a ball against the other team's players... He lost his mind.
There is no debate about how intentional that was so why would there be a debate about if he deserves a red card or not?

I think it was a red and just a regular red not a 3 matches ban, it looked pretty much intentional but i shouldn't be called personall attack or something

Red card + 1 match ban would be fair for that. I'm surprised that a player with so much experience is capable of doing such a dumb thing in a completely meaningless game. As for Costa.. six weeks without playing and it only took him 30 minutes after returning to turn into an idiot again. Needless to say that I'm pissed off. The only positive to take away from this game is that our youngsters + Cuadrado got some playing time.

Red card + 1 match ban would be enough, but rules are straight red = 3 match ban. Btw. Costa should have seen red card too.

Red card, but 3 match ban is too much.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention the idiot Costa... after six weeks... seriously? The heat was built up from his actions and provocation too.

@D, yes I saw both and agree with you that they were red-card worthy offenses, especially since it seemed to me that Terry tackled the last man. I think sooner or later Costa will get what he deserves. He is way too aggressive and only Chelsea fans seem to think he is innocent. But I agree with everyone here regarding the three match ban that comes with the red card. It is too rigid and there are varying degrees to how bad an offense is.

He deserves the red. Absolutely idiotic thing to do. Doesn't deserve the 3 match ban though.

Well, only 1 game remains this season... Or can ban continue to another season?

@quikzyyy He will miss only the final match of this season.

If it would have been a 3 match ban it would have stretched to the next season. 1 match ban means he only misses the next game.
