I heard that Bellerin is quicker than Bolt over 40m, but Arsenal's timing compared to Olympic's timing is inaccurate.
World champion sprinter Richard Kilty has thrown down the gauntlet by challenging Arsenal stars Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin to a £90,000 race for charity on the Emirates pitch.
Reports emerged on Tuesday stating Spanish full-back Bellerin recently beat Walcott’s long-standing club sprinting record, supposedly clocking 4.42 seconds over 40 metres - a time which eclipses even world’s fastest man Usian Bolt over the same distance.
And not only did ‘Teesside Tornado’ Kilty – 60m champion at both world and European level – rubbish the claims, stating there was no way Bellerin was that fast, he also called out the pacey duo and insisted he would “embarrass” the Gunners stars in a straight race.
The 25-year-old Brit told Drivetime: “They’re both great footballers, they’re great at what they do and I’ve got massive respect for them, but when the media say a footballer could beat Usain Bolt it’s a bit ridiculous.“I will guarantee you that time is impossible and I would gladly run a race to show the world that footballers run nowhere near the speed professional sprinters can.
“I’d be happy to put £30,000 down and maybe if Walcott and Bellerin would do the same, which would leave a pot of £90,000, we could donate half the winnings to charity.“I would love to do it, it would be a great and fun experience and it would be great for the public to see as well.”Asked why he is so confident, Kilty replied: “I’m the world champion over 60 metres and Bellerin is claiming to be faster than Usian Bolt over 40 metres, which is a bit ridiculous.
“I’m one of the fastest 60 metre sprinters on earth and I’ve seen how footballers run and it is absolutely impossible, unless I pop a hamstring or something, that those guys could beat me.“They’re fairly quick off the mark but they’re nowhere near as powerful and quick as professional sprinters, it’s a lot different.
“I’d put football boots on and beat them on the Emirates pitch. It would be as clear as daylight, it would be an embarrassment for them!”
