"A bad joke" -> Ozil.

Ozil was the best player in the league for me this season, the fact he didn't even make it into the best 11 is criminal.

He was certainly better than Payet.

Who would you take out? I only see posible including Ozil by replacing him with a defender such as Rose.

What I consider a Joke is having Ozil nominated for player of the season but not in the team of the season.. What is the logic behind that?

I would just take out Payet, duh. Even Dele Ali.

Anyway, exculding Ozil feels seriously wrong, and i would switch to 3 5 2 just for him

It was hard to leave out Schmeichel, Smalling, Vertonghen, Payet and Aguero but I had to.

No Kevin de Bruyne or Ozil, that is madness. Then again, the midfield this year in certain of the team as been really impressive. Its hard not to put Dele Alli or Payet since they been so good as well, we cannot remove either Mahrez or Kante, so I understand where they are coming from. At the end of the day, you have to make choice. I would have still liked to see Ozil there at least. :(

I don't know in what terms is Payet better than Ozil, would like to knew why they picked him..

@quikzyyy Payet vs Ozil, the usual debate to know wich is best. I'm not joking, I remember seeing people arguing over it before. Anyway, in my opinion, I'm guessing they picked Payet because he made a difference for the team so quickly while Ozil just had his best season for Arsenal. I know they shouldn't judge it like that but it could be it. The point is, both are very good and its hard to tell wich is better, overall.

Not in term of potential, but in term of performences Ozil is paying Arsenal inconcistency specially in big games... But i agree Ozil is the only name in the star system to have maybe deserved a regular place in the team of the year...
Im pretty happy of the actual list, Football lately inpeople's mind is about money/wages and names, some players acting like rock stars except on the pitch where they loose passion each time they get a pay rise or a good season.

The only ones normally to not like this is sponsors because for them the image of a player is everything, but hey the vision of Football we have in 2016 is way different than before, you are a top player or a top club only if your results prove it, your potential or what media and sponsors write or manage your image shouldnt be that important.

The potential or star system TOTY would have been picking 11 of those :

But in term of pitch performence, it would have been a scandal while many would have found it usual....

At the exception of Ozil, who would have doubled his assist stats if his strikers were any good this year, no one else was forgotten and Payet despite not being really fan of his potential ( saw him sine Lille 3 years and Marseille 4 years ) has really made a complete season with the help of his team and specially in big moments...

The limit of the star system is reached when the first and Second teams of the league has anti-star Football, the award were obliged to take note of pitch for once, BUT AGAIN ITS A VICTORY AGAINST SPONSORS,a small victory because those names willbe handed as gods in few month if its not already the case...

talking in general not only for England, whole Europe. Fifa stats or your image doesnt make you better or the best in a season, Pitch is the only criteria, at least for me.

@Tiki I understand what you mean, but to be sincere, the persons behind the EPL team of the year as alway seemed pretty fair in their past decision as well. They have made good choice in the past in my opinion but I agree some award like the The FA England Awards seem to make stupid decision that favor player who have a greater reputation and star statut than those with real talent and that truly helped their team reach a high position in the competition.

Ozil has like more than 135 chances created and most of them should have been a goal, and only 18 of them became goals.

If Arsenal has better finisher, Ozil will shine in almost all games and the team will be dragged up accordingly...

I would say: Ozil should be in.

Tuan_jinn Well, Ozil create more chance for sure but Payet score some fantastic goal and in some crucial game at that as well as giving assist. I guess I find Payet a bit more versatile but I agree Ozil is one of the best passer in the EPL and should be in the list as well. They should remove Delle Ali and have put Ozil instead but no doubt he's having it a bit more easy because he's English.

The level of Arsenal's finishing is so low it makes Ozil look worse, but if he had an above average striker in that side he'd have 25+ assists and this wouldn't even be a question.

I'm a stats guy. I like stats, because they never lie, just can be perceived incorrectly. Of course, it's pretty hard to misinterpret "most chances created in a single season in PL history"

@Ramaboy, I think I'm entitled to make that decision. De Gea is the best keeper in the league, but I think Lloris has been better this season.

Dont missunderstand me, im not hating on PL but the way we handle individual prizes, for instance FIFA team of the year was a joke, ok many players were there from Barça/Real and it was scandalous, not because those player werent good or didnt do their best. but in term if the season many were better...

Anyway sponsors are important and a player who is on Fifa frontpage or main Adidas promoters are advantaged to others, visibility also play a big role.
