Dream squad of your favourite club for 2016/17
JuanMata10 9 years ago Edited
Chelsea, Austria 17 1696

I know, I know, it is way too early for this, but transfer periods are exciting as hell! Anyways, as you can tell from the title, I would like you guys to share your dream team of the club you support for the upcoming season. Try to not make it too unrealistic, please!

Transfers in:

  • John Stones (alternative: Marquinhos)
  • Marco Verratti (alternative: Granit Xhaka or Grzegorz Krychowiak)
  • Alex Teixeira (alternative: Yacine Brahimi)

If it wasn't for Atletico's and Real Madrid's transfer bans, I would have definitely added Carvajal, Koke, Isco and Griezmann to my transfer targets. I was also trying to include a full back, but I couldn't come up with a good value for money full back that would suit us.

Transfers out:

  • Oscar
  • Ramires
  • Radamel Falcao
  • Christian Atsu
  • Papy Djilobodji
  • Marco Amelia

Currently on loan, but out next season:

  • Mohamed Salah
  • Marko Marin
  • Victor Moses
  • Stipe Perica
  • Lucas Piazon
  • Kenneth Omeruo
  • Tomas Kalas
  • Cristian Cuevas
  • Matej Delac
  • Islam Feruz

Loan out again:

  • Victorien Angban
  • Lewis Baker
  • Jeremie Boga
  • Izzy Brown
  • Nat Chalobah
  • Marco Van Ginkel
  • Mario Pasalic
  • Nathan
  • Dom Solanke
  • John Swift

Don't care:

  • Michael Hector
  • Wallace

Final squad:
So, after taking into account everything I said earlier, this is what the squad would look like:

GK: Courtois, Begovic, Blackman
RB: Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Aina
LB: Baba, Aké, (Azpilicueta)
CB: Terry, Zouma, Cahill, Stones, (Ivanovic)
CDM: Mikel, Matic, Verratti
CM: Loftus-Cheek, Fabregas
RM: Willian, Traoré, (Pedro), Cuadrado (?)
LM: Hazard, Pedro, Kenedy
CAM: Teixeira, (Willian), Musonda Jr.
ST: Costa, Remy, Bamford

Bold: new signings
Bold italic: academy players or players that came back from loan
(in brackets): alternative positions player X can take over if player Y is injured/suspended

So, as you can see I decided to put Cuadrado in as we will have a new manager, who'll - perhaps - give him another chance as he is doing pretty good over at Juve. Verratti is a pretty unrealistic target, but he tops my wishlist so I had to include him. Concerning the striker spot I was indifferent between Bamford and Solanke but decided to go for Bamford as he's slightly more experienced than Dom. It might be a good idea to keep both around, though, as Costa and Remy are both injury-prone and the former might also miss some games due to his behaviour. Last but not least, Charly Musonda Jr. is a stand-out talent from our youth academy, who - even though he's pretty skinny and small - looks like the next big thing. Like I said earlier, I couldn't think of a good full back so let me know if you can come up with someone! The rest should be fairly clear.

Leave your team below!

This look like a lot of work.

Transfers in

Mats Hummels (alternative: John Stones)
Blaise Matuidi (alternative: William Carvalho/Ruben Neves)
Romelu Lukaku (alternative: Wilfred Bony)

Transfers out

Phil Jones
Antonio Valencia
Marouane Fellaini
Nick Powell
Victor Valdes

On loan, but out next season

(I cannot speak for our young players on loan, I don't know them well enough)

Final squad

GK:
De Gea, Romero, Johnstone
LB:
Shaw, Borthwick-Jackson
CB:
Smalling, Hummels, Rojo, McNair
RB:
Darmian, Varela, Tuanzebe
CDM:
Matuidi, Schneiderlin Blind, Carrick
CM:
Schweinsteiger, Herrera
RM:
Young, Lingard
LM:
Depay, Januzaj
CAM:
Mata, Pereira
ST:
Martial, Lukaku, Rooney, Wilson

I don't think the current United squad needs a lot of work. A target striker like Lukaku would certainly help, but the main issue has been the style of play when it comes to scoring goals. As we've shown vs Wolfsburg and Newcastle, when United doesn't play possession, chances fall from the sky. Although the crossing needs to be better, which is why Young has moved to RM. I know he's a LM, but if he can play RB, he can play RM. I'm assuming Depay will continue to develop well. If he continues to be mediocre for the remainder of the season, it might be possible to get a winger from Real Madrid when their bans ends, if not Bale, then maybe Jese Rodriguez.

I love Blind, but he doesn't belong at CB, which is why I've brought in Hummels. Above all, Hummels is positionally sound, large, and smart. He'd shore up the backline in no time. I know many United fans will disagree with me here, but Darmian will be fine at RB. He's had like 3 bad games. Every United player except De Gea and maybe Smalling has had that amount this season. Also, playing Bastian at CDM is a waste of who he is. If we are going to play two CDM's, it needs to be Morgan and Carrick. Problem is, Carrick is getting old, so bringing in Matuidi should fix that.

As for the transfers out, Jones plays well for us, you know, when he actually plays. Dude could (and does) get injured sitting on the bench. There are so many better options than Valencia for us now, and I'm sick of playing wingers as fullbacks. Fellaini's exit is self-explanatory. Nick Powell needs to go to a lower division. Valdes need to go anywhere but United.

To conclude, I look at United and I don't see an issue with the squad, or the need to re-vamp more than two positions in it. Like most United fans, I feel that our style of play is to blame, not the actual players we have on the field.

@SunFlash: haha, it is indeed quite a bit of work, but I figured, if someone accesses FootyRoom, then he must be a bit bored! I agree with you that United doesn't need many additions, but it's interesting that you didn't name any (semi-)experienced players for the fullback positions, because that's the main concern in United's team from what I've seen.

Transfers out:

PEDRO PEDRO PEDRO PEDRO
Radamel Falcao
Christian Atsu
Papy Djilobodji
Marco Amelia
Eden Hazard [If he really wants to leave]

Transfers in:

Insigne [Favorite]
Gaya
Lacazette or Zlatan
Stones
Verratti

Final squad:

GK : Courtois
RB : Dave
CB : Zouma
CB : Terry
LB : Gaya
CDM : Verratti/Matic/Ramires
RM : Willian
CAM : Oscar or Fabrepass
LM : Insigne either Eden
ST : Zlatan-Diego

According to each situation I would rotate quite a lot. Team would rotate quite a lot to keep them fresh.

Stones to replace Zouma/Terry
Baba and Ivanovic to replace RB/LB positions
Ramires, Matic, and Mikel according to the teams we play to take advantage of each players strength.
Willian 24/7
Oscar and Fabrepass would play 45 mins each unless Fabrepass wants to walk then he can go to the bench.
Insigne is my favorite this year. HUGE potential!
Zlatan is Zlatan. Would replace him with Lacazette to keep Zlatan fresh due to age. Diego would take many games as well instead of Zlatan unless he acts like an APE. Goals infront of fights.

No upgrade on Gabriel/Per? Interesting.

Also, Zelalem has been fantastic at Rangers, he's a player I've tracked for a couple years now.

Gabriel is certainly good enough. Once he gets consistent playing time, everyone will be surprised how good he is. Per would be my 3rd choice. Would love to have Chambers as starter/3rd choice/4th choice but he needs a loan so much now. Not at good enough level sadly.

About Zelalem. He was absolutely IMMENSE in 2013 pre season when he was just 16. He was playing like a 23-year-old.

Barcelona, France 367 9768

Out :
Sandro
Munir
Adriano
Douglas : he is still wontdering how he managed to play there..

Loan in :
Denis Suarez ( villareal )
Hallilovic ( Gijon )

Potential upgrade to the team :
Verrati ( obvious ) : Barça DNA on him.
Nolito ( useful weapon for rotation )
World class defender if Vermaelen leaves.

Rafinha comming back from long term injury, Bartra and Mathieu as defensive back up, Vidal and Turan soon adapting into new club high demands, Sergi Roberto versatility and many other players ability to play different positions : Mascerano, Bartra, Vidal. Rakitic and Iniesta contribution and the MSN up front, 95% of the job is already done...

TRANSFERS OUT:
Sandro: He's good but I don't think he'll live up to Barca level. Sell him with buy-back clause just in case.
Douglas: All time worst signing. He could do well at some small club though.
Alves: Getting too old. Won't last much longer from now so why not make some money on him.
Mascherano: Same as Alves. Getting old.
Adriano: He's just nothing apecial. Doesn't do much these days.
Rafinha: No more space in the midfield especiallly with Pogba or Verratti coming. Sell with buy-back clause.
Roberto: Same as Rafinha. Sell with buy-back clause.

LOAN OUT:
Munir: Not good enough yet.
Halilovic: Needs more experience.
Denis Suárez: No space for quality players.

TRANSFERS IN:
Lucas Moura: A good player for rotation. He's used to it at PSG. Deulofeu would do.
Verratti or Pogba: they are both good defesnsively and can create chances. One of them would be a great addition.
Laporte and Marquinhos: 2 young CBs who are both great already. I would swap all our current CBs for them 2.
