Deal is officially done now, with Matic and Chelsea agreeing on a long term, 5 and a half year deal. Matic should be a huge improvement to Chelsea's deeper midfield and will help protect goal, by playing in front of the back four. He will most likely partner up with Ramires and form a solid holding partnership for chelsea.

For everyone who will say "Oh Chelsea have 100 midfielders, why are they buying more", please realize Matic plays a deeper position, in the 6 or 8 role. He does not play the same position as; Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Willian, Schurlle or Kevin De Bruyne (who will likely be sold this January as well, to Germnay outfit Wolfsburg).

Azpilicueta is not a LB and we still have A.Cole. I would agree with you if we don't have A.Cole as an option.

Well Mourinho sees him as an LB, and to be honest, Azpi has been a much better LB than Cole has this season. Just look at their stats and ratings and you'll see that Azpi can do better than Cole at LB.

I thought that Ramires is still nowhere near as good as Fernandinho or Toure. I hear Matic is fantastic though.

@Alex: Nope, there were times when he was just benched because Mourinho preferred Azpi over Cole, and rightfully so. Azpi has been one of our big stars this season, ask any other Chelsea fan.
