Does Benzema deserve to be in the starting lineup for France?

In my opinion, no. France has a fantastic team but with no one to finish. Benzema hardly ever plays well for France. He had a terrible Euro. Why is he always in the starting line up? Why not give Giroud a chance?

I completely agree. He might be deadly but all that deadliness goes away when he plays for France. And this is a huge blow for France as without a ST they can't easily win. Like you said, Giroud deserves a chance.

*deadly with Real Madrid but all that deadliness goes away when he plays for France.

Giroud and Benzema are quite different strikers. It changes the style of France's attack. I think it should be alternated between the two, but keep in mind reputation goes along way in national teams. Gignac could be another possibility but Giroud outshines him in almost every aspect.

He looks like a completely different player when he represents France. No confidence. The last game against Spain is a perfect example. The Real Madrid Benzema would have been on the score sheet for sure.

Maybe he feels the pressure of being  compared to Zidane  in the National team.. Anyways, if he can't take the responsibility then someone else should.

I'm glad you brought this up. As those who were on talkroom will attest, that I was shouting at DD to sub him off. He was completely non-existent.

Look, the real issue is NOT that he shouldn't start. The real issue is that he should NEVER play as a lone striker/CF. He just can't do it. You can do that with Giroud if you wish, but that doesn't suit Benzema. I think he could easily play alongside another forward (as they did against Georgia). He is very good at helping create and in build-ups and can finish if someone is there to play a 1-2 with him. However, he does not create enough chances for himself, hold-up the ball, or position himself in the penalty box well enough to be relied upon as the sole CF in the French NT.

In other words, he's a Spanish-style forward trying to play in a non-Spanish-style team.

The talent is there, just not the confidence. In the last match, you could see Ribery was trying to finish off chances on his own because he didn't think Benzema could do it. Its a shame really, if we had a world class CF, we'd be bossing around.

Benzema IS a world class CF, just not one suited to France's style of play. He fits in perfectly with Madrid, and I prefer him over Higuain.

World Class was probably the wrong choice of words. Multidimensional probably, someone like Zidane/Henry.

Giroud better in my opinion... or Menez...

NO, just because he plays in Real Madrid he should be given special treatment. He's not freaking Ronaldo or Messi. They should give someone else a chance if he's not working.

France good strikers : Benz, Giroud, Remy, gignac, Gameiro,Gomis. in other way Didier don' t have many solutions, i understand him cause he don' t want to play with Giroud alone cause its not the style of France. (for me  giroud in = valbuena out) but Benzema doesn' t seem in a good form. i think Remy could be the best solution but didier knows that its very important to make Benz confident he is as important as Ribery in this team. we still trust in him and in his talent :) .

^@tiki_taka true but still... it's like Ibrahimovic: the only reason why Barca sold him is because he can't fit into tiki-taka, like Henry, Sanchez (we need to sell him) and many other players!

benzema has been shit this whole season for real madrid and france, dont know why ppl are saying he is world class when ibra, rvp, suarez, falcao, balotelli, cavani, aguero easily outshine him. his confidence is low and looks unwilling and positionless on field. he doesnt fit in madrid, that is the reason he scored only 8 goals so far. and he is surely leaving madrid this july. watch his latest interview. Do not overrate him unecessarily.

@redknapp and ramaboy

Benzema not better than Giroud or Menez?

2011-12 season

Karim Benzema - 52 apps, 32 goals, 15 assists

Olivier Giroud - 43 apps, 25 goals, 9 assists

Jeremy Menez - 42 apps, 9 goals, 13 assists

2012-13 season

Karim Benzema - 37 apps, 15 goals, 12 assists

Olivier Giroud - 41 apps, 16 goals, 12 assists

Jeremy Menez - 35 apps, 5 goals, 11 assists

Now I know that Benz is lacking confidence this season, but you all saw him at his best last season, and he was a beast. Don't forget how world class Karim can be. He's just been off-touch this season due to Higuain being preferred over him, injuries, and Morata's emergence. If we sell Higuain and make Benz the first-choice striker, and make Morata our second-choice, I'm sure Karim will be back to his best.

Benzema is one of the top strikers in the world, same with Higuain.

It is true that Benzema vanishes during international games. I think they should start Remy. I prefer him over Giroud.
