No it is not meant to rile up Real Madrid fans, if you truly think that true barcelona fans who are catalans rank an football related rivalry over your local rivals whom are spanish in their territory you are deeply mistaken.

Clasico over Barcelona derby anytime, its like the old Manchester Derby before Arabs came to City, the derby was not that important comparing to now.
But still happy we won against them ;), only Villareal and Atletico can make us lose the title now.

Your biggest enemy to losing the title is yourselves. Barca are capable of beating both Villareal and Atletico.

@Tiki I think you misunderstand, the hardcore catalan fans and ultras like the boixos nois care about the off the pitch rivalry and the battle happens in the stands not on the pitch unlike in el clasico where it is about whos the better football team. Espanyol is the team the spanish in barcelona support and the history between the spanish and catalans are very tense hence why it is viewed as greater by the hardcore fans. Ive been to the camp nou 2 times and in the neighbour hoods surrounding the stadium it is catalan flags hanging everywhere. However if you go to the more wealthy spanish suburbs where Espanyol is based you see spanish flags everywhere and alot of anti catalan graffiti. The Espanyol-Barca derby goes beyond football unlike the clasico. Sure, the clasico is a great football match but it lacks the raw passion that the Barcelona derby offers. As more of the hardcore turn up for that game due to it being local so traveling fees are lower and ticketing prices are also lower. Which allows alot of the hardcore fans who dont earn alot to go to the game.

I understand Dephased, but you should also understand that its more important for Espagnol fans than for Barça fans.
Football and Politics in Spain were always mixed, So any team that starts With Espagnol and Real are potentially opposite to the club identity, those team are followed by people who followed Franco or want to stay under the Spanish government.
Barça, Atletic Bilbao Atletico ...etc were Historically against Franco, and some teams like Barça and Bilbao fans actually want to have their independance.
Every City in Spain is divided in 2 groups, not Just Madrid or Barça because of the civilian war 40 years ago, so the rivalry in those cities are at it best and sometimes the hate too.
But the Club who is at the extrem opposite for our identity is Real Madrid, because its in Madrid the capital of Spain and because its a royal club supported by Franco at that time.
But i understand your point about the rivalry of the Derby, i think even Boix... would prefer win a Clasico than a Derby, even the players and the direction.

As an outsider, I never think Barca vs Espanyol (derby) is as any close nor interesting compare to El Clasico', Sure it would always be a great game and high tension but Espanyol to us can never be compared to Barca, Barca's win is always expected. They are simply not Barca's greatest RIVAL, Real Madrid is.

@tiki 1+ , El Clasico is more than a match everyone who lives in Spain knows that very well. And if you do understand a bit of Spanish history then you also would have known. But ofcourse the French and Spanish understand each other very well more than us here in the Netherlands x)

@thetroll you gotta give the Perico's some credit, they drew twice vs Madrid last season and their second draw won us the title.

And yes, I value the Barcelona derby very much because I have been an FCB supporter my entire life. But the Real Madrid game is just much higher...
Espanyol and Real are very much alike, they both have a spanish identity, and both were formed as spanish loyalist clubs, Espanyol still keeping that crown on there crest is proof enough that they were the opposite of Barca, the Anti-Barca. But Real Madrid is like Espanyol x20, considering they were Franco's main club, and like Espanyol.. they are the opposite of Barcelona in every way, and the fact that its MADRID and BARCELONA
the spanish and catalan capitals..One more thing is that Real Madrid has been way more competitive with us all throughout time, and as we march ahead in progress and international acclaim, Espanyol remains stuck trying to have something to play for, as they rarely fight for or win titles, and are hardly ever in Europe.. so the Real Madrid match will always mean more.

It's us against Atletico. Barça game still more important.
