Confessions of an EPL fan...

I've been wanting to say this a long time ago, but lately I have been a little busy...

Basically I wanted to comment about La Liga, I hope this doesn't turn out to be another one of those threads were people argue forever about nonsense stuff...

The EPL vs La Liga, since the forum was created has been the most recurrent topic, the main issue in most of the long argument threads and most of the "fights" we see in here daily.

The truth is, La Liga is the greatest League now a days...
... together with the EPL :)

EPL fans like myself often tend to underrate La Liga a lot, saying the overall quality of its teams is not as great as the one in the EPL which is complete nonsense.
Also the argument about small teams in both leagues being compared is a little subjective, those teams have rarely faced each other and there is no real way of comparing quality.

That and many other arguments are the base of fans fro both leagues trying to compare and show which is better.

Until last season the only fact I could say about both leagues was that EPL was more entertaining to watch, any team could beat any other team and that parity was what made the EPL unpredictable and "more entertaining". Well... not any more, La Liga has been a roller-coaster this season, La liga has had small teams beat the giants and at least making them suffer throughout the game, overall an extremely entertaining season.

My TV network didn't transmit EPL this season, making it very hard for me to watch any other matches besides Man United's... At the same time I spent a lot of time watching alternative leagues like League 1, Eredivise and specially La Liga which I had never seen that much of before. This season I watch more La Liga games than any other competitions (excluding UCL).

This season, La Liga proved EPL fans that everything we claimed EPL was better at was nonsense. The parity between clubs, the entertaining unexpected matches, the underrated teams, the unexpected league positions.

Since the EPL season started I knew City was going to win it, and Im not someone who guesses league winners correctly very often. It was predictable. I did have my doubts midway when Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool were on top but in the end it all finished as we knew it was going to finish. A somehow entertaining end of the season but not as entertaining as La Liga's...

Also, EPL teams had no chance against La Liga teams this season so there is no reason to argue that top EPL teams are better.

Why am I going crazy and talking about this stuff? Well... its mainly because I hate to see many good threads being ruined by this tedious topic that comes very much out of nowhere.
We EPL fans need to admit EPL is not in its prime years, La Liga is incredibly entertaining and as good as EPL in most of the things fans use to say it wasn't. Whoever cant admit this is because the have never properly watched La Liga or is just to proud to say the truth...

For all of those who dont like reading long posts just like myself, Im just confessing La Liga is an AMAZING competition and EPL, at least this season, hasn't been at its level. So please stop making every thread about comparing leagues.

I still think EPL is on a higher level. Yes, La Liga this season was fantastic indeed, but I doubt it will be that entertaining next season. EPL is the best league in the world because it has that entertainment and shockers consistently for quite a long time.

Football fans are making too much out of this. I mean no disrespect to La Liga - it is a great league - but you'll need more than a season to be considered on the level of the EPL.

Tell that to Lodatz.

@Ven

The most "entertaining" league is opinionated. You have 100% legibility when you claim EPL the most entertaining to you. But the question I have for you based on your statement of....

"I mean no disrespect to La Liga - it is a great league - but you'll need more than a season to be considered on the level of the EPL."

  • .... is: What has the EPL done in the Champions League in the last two seasons to be considered to be on par or above La Liga? Four times have La Liga teams have reached the CL semis, only once has an EPL team. Five times have La Liga teams reached the quarters, and only twice have EPL teams. This year around, two Spanish teams have reached the finals of the Champions League, just how Chelsea and United had done so in '08. I think that this, alongside with the consistency shown in Europe by Barcelona and Real Madrid (as well as Atletico, Valencia, Bilbao, and Sevilla's performances in the Europa League) in previous years show that La Liga is at least on par with the EPL. Guaranteed.

I'm sure if you watch more La Liga matches outside of Champions League games containing Spanish teams, you'll understand what I mean.

Completely agree! @Vendeta: EPL is on a higher level???? seriously mate??? La Liga quality is way higher, what EPL is better is the stadium, the fans... and competitiveness, but this season it's all because every top team sucked.

English football is hitting ROCK BOTTOM, we have to admit that before we can go up again.

@Tuan

Haha, my thoughts exactly. This is what happens when the behemoths that were Manchester United collapse.

Just look at it this way..... 1st place Manchester City got torn apart by 2nd place Barcelona 4-1. And it would've been 6-1 if those two unfairly called offside goals counted.

it always makes me sad how from the PL community there is no respect for teams like Valencis, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Villarreal, Atletic Club, Atletco...

And btw: a league is not the best because it is even, in that case the uzbekistan 2nd league or something like that would be the best league in the world. Use logic

and for Vendetta, your logic, just because you noticed la liga this season doesnt mean that the previous season had lover class (la liga has have better class than pl among midtable-tams, bottom-teams and top-teams for awhile now)

people can argue which is the best league subjectively but objectively you can just look at the UEFA coefficient where La Liga is number 1...

@dynast

obviously you have chosen the past 2 european seasons to show how EPL teams have been crap and to strengthen the point of la liga teams > epl teams. during those 2 years a lot of stuff were happening in english football, chelsea & united were going through tough transition period, city were experiencing european football for the first time in their history and it was hard for them to adapt to it, arsenal with them financial troubles and their consistent injuries of their key players and liverpool were building on their team, and despite all of this i think english teams did really good in those 2 years.
now instead of choosing the last 2 seasons why dont we look for the past 10 seasons in the CL , to have better collection of data and see which league have been producing consistent level of european football

That's exactly what I'm saying. La Liga has been second-best to the EPL for about a decade, but for the last two seasons, they have eclipsed the English teams.

And yeah, I'm sure Arsenal and City have it tough. Why not look at La Liga? Valencia and Atletico are in debt of 300+ Million. And yet, you find small budget teams like Atletico, Sevilla, and Valencia (not to mention teams using entirely homegrown players like Bilbao) doing well in Europe. English teams have an immense budget when compared to La Liga. La Liga teams are in a tougher situation than any EPL team.

Like knibis said, im not asking you guys to say la liga is the better league, just to give respect to midtable teams,
when Chelsea beat Arsenal 6-0 : Chelsea is amazing, when Madrid or Barça beat a Spanish team 6-0,its because the other team is sh*t, or defense or players.....

Barça and Real were very human this season in la liga, its a proof that they had a surnatural form past years, United fans understand this more because they used to have this form and destroy EPL teams home and away...

Im just asking you to give credit when needed, RM gave 7 to sevilla, everyone was saying la liga is poor, then gave galatasaray 5 away, same excuse, then Schalke 6, and finally Bayern 4 away...
Instead of praising the attack of the team, biased people point on the weakness of the rival wich is completely false, midtable Spanish teams have won 6 of the last 12 EL.

Its how people analysing results with bias that made me arguing and arguing, but for lodatz, he prefers to disappear than admitting i though i could make him understand my point, i was wrong so i gave up.

I dont like Mourinho, but he said many things that were true : ( One of these )
1- To Sherwood when he said City is the best team in the world : the planet is not England.
2- This Barça is the worst since a long time.
3- Was right to park the bus against Atleti, he knew they couldnt open play them because they were the best side.
He knew it, unlike some Chelsea fans.

But im not forgetting that EPL have healthy clubs and Spanish teams are touched by crisis, neither the atmosphere of the English fans incredible, i only judge on the Football quality and Spain is actually the best.
I cant say wich league is the best but i can clearly say where i can see the best quality Football, i may be biased because of my Joga Bonito/ Grinta/ Tiki taka view about Football.

I like what you said about the perspectives @tiki

when a top team in PL wins over a bottom team with 5-0 PL fan call say that the top team was good ..but in la liga when a top team wins its becaue "all the other team sucks"

In genral, huge top-class academy's among almost every La Liga team is imo beating money and in this case PL to the title of the the worlds best league

And i like to add something about supporter culture, the key word here is Ultras, the Ultras culture can be found on the continent but not in england (its even found in some Scottish clubs but has still not got a foothold in england), the Ultras culture is tbh superior to the PL supporter cultur, ultras sing 85 minutes of the 90 and they sing loud, sometomes they combine it with flags and/or pyro. in england we see the effect of non-orgonized supporter culture, songs lasting 4 seconds 3 times a half sometimes..

its because of this that La Ligas and the rest of europs supporter culture is better, i gotta agree though that some la liga teams dont have ultras but half of them have (like betis, atletico, valencia, sevilla but NOT barca.. atleast not anymore), so among the la liga teams that dont have ultras the atmosphere is worse than PL, but among the teams that have ultras the atmosphere is better than in PL

The difference between an objective fan and a fan boy arrogant and biased like this Lodatz, jumping on people like a thinking Police.

To the stupid Lodatz, everyone can have his opinion about the leagues, if you cant let people say their preferences without getting bashed by a fanboy you can go disappear for months again...

What will you do to tuanis now ? Treat him as a fool, or tell him to STFU because he says something you hate to hear and couldnt admit ? hein Lodzy ?

Or should we have an authorization to say this without getting bashed by thinking dictator...
I was only arguing with him because i though he could change his mind, i understood lately that idiots never change views or dreams....

They prefer to disappear when things on the pitch get out of their control, and come back slowly without having updated none of their BS bias....

Let the idiot dream.
