Di Maria assist machine. Still can't believe we're getting rid of him.

I would give Asist a big coeficient despite being linked to the sharpness of the assisted player, but the sharpness of the assist is decisive.
Huge work again +1, those topics arent made for debates but i appreciate the quality.

I'd like to say that I appreciate the work you put in this too, nobody forces you to do so.

Thanks guys. @SunFlash Despite being an assist machine and a terrific dribbler, no one can deny that di Maria is abysmally inconsistent.

+1 nice effort.

"Three stats will be addressed: key passes, chances created, and assists."
there's that^ kind of creativity, and then there's also another kind of creativity which i also like a lot, and can't be completely caught by stats: the way a player treats the ball, his unpredictability and the solutions he adopts to come out or solve certain individual gameplay situations. eg: being surrounded by 3 markers and come out of it in a mind-blowing way. another one: remember that Suarez goal were he had his marker on his back and he backheel-nutmegged him on 1st touch and ran into goal afterwards? yep, that kind of creativity. and when it comes to that then i'd put my boy Isco on top of the ranking, perhaps rivaled by Messi. but i do think that Isco is crazier than the Argentine.

@Shpalman

Yeah, I did the form of creativity easiest to be calculated by statistics: the creativity required to directly result in a goal. You'll notice that Modric, Rakitic, and Iniesta are absent from this list. That is because their total stats in these three departments falls far shorter than even Thomas Muller, which is not surprising considering they are dictators of the pitch, not direct creators (despite the fact that they might have better vision than the creators).

Never known if Ozil is underrated or overrated... He seems like he disappears in big games but he has done well for Arsenal and he did great for RM.

Also... Why on earth is De Bruyne still at Wolfsburg? He deserves top class team, imagine him playing with a slightly better squad around him. He could even be starting with Chelsea's current squad, never understood why they turned him down..

@shpalman the art of 1st touch... like said by dynastian, it's very hard to do stats of those. Agree with Isco, I think Özil, Sanchez & Pogba are great shouts too in that category (not probably THE best, but ONE of the best), though there must be many more, but atm names don't come in to my mind.

@Tuanis: Mourinho has said that De Bruyne didn't want to fight for a place in the starting XI and always acted slacky in training, that's why. Same goes for Lukaku btw.

RESPECT!!! everyone!

Ozil and Di Maria are the 2 extremely hard case to analyze, especially because of the 2 entirely different teams they used to and are play for.

I wish there is anything like: MA (Missed clear cut assist) which mean striker sucks on certain clear chances. I bet certain player would boost their stats higher (Messi, Hazard, or Ramsey....).

Also if we can weight the assist/key passes based on opponent's class, for example: top 7 teams would be Class A (3), 7 to 14 class B (2) and the rest is 1.

That would be cool to see.

@Tuan

I can work on assists based on team's skill level like I did with goals, but not sure about the key passes/chances created stats for that.

Still want to say this about 15th time in footyroom, Özil's hardly a flop & he's been just as good as he was in Real Madrid.

These are some reasons you might think he's a flop

1) You hate Özil just for the heck of it
2) You hate Arsenal
3) You don't watch Arsenal play
4) You don't see the beauty of Özil, the way he plays
5) You didn't watch Real Madrid play when Özil was there
6) You think he should be scoring 20 goals a season, altho he's never been a goalscorer
7) Arsenal miss dozens of chances Özil create, so you can't see them in assists.
8) You watch this thread and completely ignore the fact that Özil's #1
9) You want to ignore that Arsenal have improved A LOT after Özil's arrival (actually won some trophies too)
10) You think football is just about goals & assists. It isn't, you can impact the game in number of ways. [Gary Neville & Jamie Carragher on Scholes, Lampard & Gerrard on YouTube (Neville's part)]
11) You always join the bandwagon

No one in this thread has said Ozil was a flop...

Yeps, not in this thread, but in this thread Özil is involved & it's another proof. But in every other thread/comments I ever read (everywhere, not just footyroom) I read that Özil's a flop - when the guys who call him flop are part of atleast 3-4 problems I mentioned above.
