                  Club Atletico Boca Juniors

Boca Juniors currently plays in Argentina’s top division (primera division) along the likes of River Plate, San Lorenzo and Estudiantes. Argentina’s league is very different than most European leagues. They have the league split into two tournaments, La Apertura (the opening tournament of 19 games, or half a regular league) and La Clausura (the closing of another 19 games).

Boca Juniors is one of the most successful teams world wide achieving many trophies both domestically and internationally. They were most successful during the 60’s, 70’s and early 00’s. The most prominent nickname is La mitad mas uno (half plus one) and fans are mostly known as Bosteros or La Doce (the 12). Boca Juniors currently plays in  Estadio Alberto J. Armando or better known as “La Bombonera”. Boca has been there since 1940 and has a capacity of around 49.000.

\ NOTE TWO DIFFERENT TEAMS MAY WIN THE LEAGUE IN THE SAME YEAR SINCE ITS SPLIT INTO TWO DIFFERENT HALVES. *.

Early History - Lower class Italian workers founded Boca Juniors in 1905. Ever since the early years Boca has had a long time rivalry with River Plate. Boca was seen as the club middle and lower class supported while River was the high-class team with their nickname being Los Millonarios (The Millionaires). In 1931 Boca won its first professional league title. It wasn’t until 1934 they reclaimed the title once again also being the first team to score more than 100 goals in the league (scored 101). They manage to hold on to the title in 1935 becoming the first team to ever successfully defend the title. From 1936-1969 they won another 8 League titles and 7 other various domestic cups.

1970-1980 - In 1970 Boca claimed another title but lacked for the following years. They waited until 1976 when Juan Carlos Lorenz took over as manager winning 5 titles in 3 years. These titles include 1976 League (both first and second half), the 1977 Copa Libertadores, the equivalent of the Champions League, (the final being against Cruzeiro finishing in a shoot-out and being Bocas first ever Libertadores) the 1977 Intercontinental Cup beating Borussia Mönchengladbach, then achieved to retain the 1978 Libertadores.

1981-1999** - The 80’s were some of the worst years for Boca. They only managed to win one cup and that was the 1981 Apertura. In 1984 Boca suffered massive financial problems and was at the brink of bankruptcy. That same year Boca lost the biggest defeat of 9-1 against FC Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Soon after Antonio Alegre became president and started to bring the club back to its prime pulling it out of financial problems. After a few years Boca succeeded in winning the 1989 Supercopa Sudamericana, the 1990 Recopa Sudamericana, the 1992 Apertura, the 1992 Copa Masters and also the La Copa de Oro Nicolas Leoz in the same year. In 1998 **Carlos Bianchi would step up and become the new manager of Boca. He would amount to winning 9 trophies while in charge. They achieved the 1998 Apertura and the 1999 Clausura. **

**2000-Present - The year 2000 was the most successful year for Boca achieving a Treble. They won the Copa Libertadores, the Intercontinental Cup (defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in the final) and they won the 2000 Apertura. In 2001 Boca reclaimed the Copa Libertadores once again making it the only trophy that year. In 2002 Bianchi left after a dispute with the chairman but was brought back in 2003. In 2003 Boca won the Copa Libertadores once again making 3 times in 4 years. Boca Also won the Intercontinental Cup by defeating AC Milan. In 2004 Boca reached the Copa Libertadores final but lost in a shoot-out and shortly after Bianchi retired thus ending the most successful period. In 2005 Basile took over as manager and took Boca to incredible heights. From 2005 to 2006 Boca achieved 5 trophies, the 2005 Recopa Sudamericana, the 2005 Apertura, the 2006 Clausura and the 2006 Recopa Sudamericana. Boca reclaimed the Copa Libertadores in 2007. In 2008 Boca claimed the Recopa Sudamericana and the Aperura. The last trophy Boca got was the 2011 Apertura.

Great job raimondo! Very well done. I'm sure everyone learned something (considering the fact that no one her pays attention to the Argentine league).

@Knibis when i originally had posted it, it was all messed up. Thank you to whichever mod that fixed it. I didnt really want to write about the Ultras seeing as it doesnt exactly relate to the clubs success or history. but yes they are enormous.

@tdot oh really? how did he do?

@dynastian Thank you! yea ive noticed that not many people here care for other leagues besides English Spanish or German. Argentina provides quality players and smart scouts alwasy check argentina out first.
