I would love to see R. Madrid and City and Barcelona and Chelsea in the same group.

How are Arsenal 1st seed. They barely scrape through qualification rounds, haven't finished in top 2 in England in quite a while, and haven't made the semis of the CL in years.

Benfica's presence in the 1st pot is also quite confusing.

^The seeding pots are decided based on how well each team has done in international competitions. At the momento of the group draws one team from each pot is selected to form the 4 team groups.

I would love to see a group of death with Bayern, PSG, Liverpool and Roma.

This year Im rooting for Roma in the UCL I believe they can go far.

@samuel999, seeding is a performance-based ranking which is sorted out prior to the start of a knockout competition. It is a way to determine which teams will play each other. Generally, better teams get rewarded for their performance in the previous season by playing the weaker teams in the higher pots. And UEFA uses a coefficient system to determine how many teams from one country are represented in a given pot. For example, in the first pot, Germany has one representation (Bayern) but Portugal has two (Porto and Benfica). Why? I haven't a clue.

Guys I had an article about club and country points but I lost it :D UEFA consider only CL and EL about points. Benfica is in first pot because they have reached Europa League Quarters, Semis or Finals 5 times in a row. Porto is like them but they were also effective in CL either before last year. For example if you are the Champions of England and if you were banned or if you weren't in CL, You get only 3.000-3.500 points in that year while the 4th one plays in CL and gets at least 21.000 points. (was talking about Arsenal and Liverpool :D)
Benfica is considered 5th team in Europa btw.

Schalke, Valencia and ManU aren't in CL so that's why Arsenal and Porto are first seeded.

@dynast we're seed 1 because for 17 seasons we've qualified at least for the last 16. The spot you finish in your league doesn't matter, performances in european competitions is the only thing they look at when they do the seeding.

I want an easy group this season, so we can finish first and avoid bayern munich/barca in the last 16 for once.

Gosh, I dont want any seed 2 teams in Chelsea's group. They all look deadly.

Hopefull PSG play Malmo, would be a great homecoming for Zlatan.

It seems like Arsenal have always one of the hardest groups / hardest opponent in Round of 16. But the great thing in UCL is classic phrase 'you have to beat the best to be the best'. Every team (I believe) wants to WIN the UCL at the end of the day.

Last year the TV schedule was terrible for Arsenal fans (atleast for me). I mean there was/were every day amazing match(es) at the same day as we played.

One thing I really hope for, is that the FA give bigger gaps between Premier league matches and CL matches when it comes down to the business end. Not just for Chelsea, but for all English teams.

I agree with Tuanis i think thats the group of death except with Real instead of Bayern. Real, PSG, Liverpool, Roma

TheGame, read Emrecan's post, he explains it very well. Benfica and porto did better than all other teams in Germany except Bayern in the last 5 seasons especially Benfica who has reached 4 out of 5 semifinals.

Emrecan, Schalke is in Champions league but they didnt have as many points as Porto and Arsenal the season before which is the one UEFA uses

Just to add to @Emre
The club coefficient rankings are based on the results of clubs competing in the five previous seasons of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The rankings determine the seeding of each club in all UEFA competition draws.

UEFA Champions League points system

First qualifying round elimination – 0.5 points

Second qualifying round elimination – 1 point

Group stage participation – 4 points

Group stage win – 2 points

Group stage draw – 1 point

Round of 16 participation – 4 points

UEFA Europa League points system
First qualifying round elimination – 0.25 points

Second qualifying round elimination – 0.5 points

Third qualifying round elimination – 1 point

Play-off elimination – 1.5 points

Group stage win – 2 points

Group stage draw – 1 point

Coefficient calculation
Clubs' coefficients are determined by the sum of all points won in the previous five years, plus 20% of the association coefficient over the same period (33% before 2009).

that cant be all @quikzyyy.. there are more thing to get points from such as Semi/quarter participation and goal scored in games...

Arsenal 429 9010

I didn't found anything about goals scored in games, and don't think they are adding any coefficient.

UCL: Since 2009/10 clubs have been awarded an additional point if they reach the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals or final.

EL: Since 2009/10, clubs have been guaranteed a minimum of two points if they reach the group stage and are awarded an additional point if they get to the quarter-finals, semi-finals or final.
