This week we will be profiling the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich between Bayern Munich and Chelsea. To play a final of a major European tournament inside your own stadium is a rarity but it has happened before. Most notably in 1984 when Liverpool played AS Roma inside Roma's very own Olympic Stadium.

The omens for Chelsea are good because Liverpool proved victorious that night and won the penalty shoot-out after 120 minutes of football ended 1-1. So it can be done but you kind of expect Bayern Munich to be stronger favourites than what AS Roma were back in 1984. Liverpool back then had already won three European Cups in 1977, 1978 and 1981 and so had made the big psychological breakthrough of winning.

Chelsea on the other hand have a long history of coming close and they suffered heartbreak in 2008 when they were one penalty kick away from the greatest prize in European club football on that rain soaked night in Moscow. Maybe John Terry being injured might help them in so much that some of the players who suffered that night are not playing in Munich.

Bayern are favourites and rightly so and they have been resting players ahead of this final after losing out on the league to Borussia Dortmund with several games to go. Chelsea too have rested players recently since their FA Cup triumph and they will want to qualify for next seasons Champions League. If Chelsea fail to beat Bayern then they will be forced into playing Europa League football next season.
