Chelsea: David Luiz closing in on £40m Paris St-Germain move

Chelsea FC, England 277 6501

"The 27-year-old Brazil international joined the Blues from Benfica for £21.3m in January 2011.

He has made 143 appearances, featuring predominantly at centre-back but also as a defensive midfielder.

Luiz has three years left on a five-year contract he signed in September 2012.

The Brazilian has been the subject of interest from Barcelona in the last two summers, but French champions PSG - despite recently failing Uefa's financial fair play (FFP) rules - are set to break the transfer record for a defender to secure his services.

Chelsea only narrowly complied with FFP and see this as a sensible piece of business, given the profit it would generate.

Luiz is not part of manager Jose Mourinho's first-choice central defensive pairing and his exit would provide funds to strengthen in other areas.

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa is among those linked with a move to Stamford Bridge."

As Much I love Geezer , I think this is a great piece of business ! I honestly think he worth less than 40 m , but if PSG thinks otherwise , I am more than happy to bless this transfer . Amen .

Geezer will always stay forever in our hearts if he leaves or stays , we love him . However , football is business and when such offer comes and if Geezer wants to move , then he should go .

I don't believe in club loyalty. I believe player should think what is best for him in his career . So , I wish David Luiz best if he decides to leave .

I don't believe in club loyalty unless player has graduated from that club or started very young there or from that city . I believe player should think what is best for him in his career . So , I wish David Luiz best if he decides to leave .

Chelsea should cherish selling this guy, as a defender he is atrocious. However he is a very cool bloke so for the dressing room it wouldnt be good.

I love Luiz and I'll be sad if he leaves, but for 40+ million I'll stop being sad two weeks after he's left.

Just think of the world class player we can sign with that money.

Haha.. A fool and his money = soon parted. In what World is Luiz worth 40 mil? The guy is not even a starter. PSG have too much money to burn. They must really want that CL bad. Next they'll swoop in for Hazard, 65 mil.

@wolfie if neymar is worth 130mil then I think 40mil for david luiz is not even enough

^ Neymar is 22 and one of the Worlds best young player. Luiz is 27 and not even one the top 20 best defenders in the World. Luiz is not a stater, he makes a lot of defensive errors that cost games. 40+ mil is way too much for him. 30 mil at most.

40+ million is way too much for him but what's your point arguing with Chelsea fans about this? You really think we'll say this isn't right because he isn't worth that much. Haha! Yeah, right!

40+ million come to Daddy Jose!

The Telegraph are reporting that Mourinho's top two choices on who to buy with the Luiz money are Paul Pogba and Koke.

They also reported Paulinho might be looked at as a decent back-up.

One of, if not my favourite player of the field. But 40m is good business. We can bring in Costa and still make profit.

He is obviously not worth that mush but he is still a great defender...
btw, 40m is nothing, Ive read the transfer bid could go to a record 62m, making him the world's most expensive defender ever!

Every club knows very well if PSG bids for 40m you can ask for another 20...
As much as I like PSG, they amount of money they are willing to spend just harms the football economy in general...

Good deal for both sides? Obviously for Chelsea but not for PSG. Well in Ligue 1 he wont be punished like in the premier league for poor defending but them paying 40 million pounds for someone like him is ridiculous.

Every club is a selling club when right amount comes along . Especially in David Luiz case it would have been crazy not to sell when such offer comes along . Luiz is entering his prime and can be brilliant and awful at times .

Arsenal looses it is players not because right amount was offered but because Arsenal could not offer anything for the player ( titles and higher wages ) . I am sure if Chelsea said: " no we keep Luiz ! " ; David Luiz would have stayed , because we can offer higher wage and titles will always come . Just recently Bacary Sagna left ( vital player ) again for all the same reasons players left Arsenal for the past 8 years . ( lets be honest , I don't know what else could cause him move )

This applies to any club . Club thinks about money they can make by keeping that player or selling that player . And Players think of their careers , titles and money they can make by transferring or staying . Reality of modern football . ( No such thing as loyalty and there should not be loyalty )
