Chelsea board discuss manager's future

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's future at the club is in question following discussions about his position between the Blues' board of directors.

Owner Roman Abramovich led the talks after the champions were beaten 2-1 at Leicester on Monday. It was their ninth Premier League defeat in 16 games and left them a point above the relegation places.

It is not clear whether Mourinho, 52, will be in charge for Saturday's home game with fellow strugglers Sunderland.

Mourinho, in his second spell in charge of Chelsea, was given Abramovich's public backing in October, but domestic results have not improved since.

The Russian's instinct has always been to keep backing the man who brought the Premier League title back to Stamford Bridge last season and signed a new four-year contract in August.

However, Chelsea's form has collapsed, with the loss at Leicester leaving them 16th in the table with 15 points.
Abramovich and the rest of Chelsea's hierarchy are weighing up how long they can afford to wait for improvement. The Blues are 20 points behind leaders Leicester and 14 off the Champions League places, with a crucial last-16 tie against Paris St-Germain to come in that competition.

The other problem facing Abramovich and Chelsea is the lack of an available, quality successor.
The unemployed Carlo Ancelotti has already been sacked by the Blues, while other potential targets, such as Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola and Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, out of reach at present.
It has led to speculation Chelsea may turn once more to Guus Hiddink on a temporary basis.
The 69-year-old Dutchman had a spell as caretaker boss in 2009, guiding the club to FA Cup success.

I think they should give Mou more time, I know normal manager would have been long sacked by now, but Mou has brought so much for Chelsea, he deserves a bit more special treatments.

Beside, the players need to step up for their coach now, instead of being a bunch of overrated lazy asses. With that being said, I still think Mou holds the most responsibilities for this dilemma and he needs to change his whatever is wrong to fix it.

With all due respect, Guud Hiddink is a very bad choice... Im still bitter about he ruining the Dutch's qualification campaign

why would we sack our beloved manager who is one of the best managers in the world and has already proven so many things, if we sack him it would be the worse mistake.
mourinho worked with some amazing players like drogba, lampard, terry, matterazzi, milito, cristiano ronaldo and many more and noone hated him, every single player praised him and he has always been the same.
yes some bad results is mourinho's fault but most of the bad results are bcuz of the players like henry said: you could give the players good instructions but if they don't put effort in it then they would FAIL and if the players don't want to play for mourinho or for chelsea then they should get the F out of the club.

Wow.. shocked right now. The next year will be incredibly difficult when it comes to transfers as the club will have to pay Mourinho a massive compensation fee while also missing out on CL prize money and building the new stadium. Tough times ahead.

Of course they are going to turn up for the next game. Everyone will try to impress the new manager, whoever it is. That doesn't necessarily mean playing better, but trying harder, running more etc. If you get a new boss at your work place, you'll obviously work harder to make a good impression as well. It's a no-brainer, really.

@juan so you are proving my point right players don't play for the club they play for themselves no matter whoever the manager is YOU HAVE TO PLAY WITH PASSION and according to your logic you wouldn't "impress" your current boss? LOL

That is not what I said. Of course we, as fans who love the club, expect players to try as hard for the club as possible. However, most of them don't feel deeply connected to Chelsea, for them it's just another club. Do you think that for example Fabregas "loves" Chelsea? Probably not. What about Hazard, Pedro? Exactly the same. Unfortunately, the only ones who genuinely seem to care are JT, Iva, Azpi and arguably Matic. For the rest, Chelsea is just another work place where they'll stay a couple of years and then move on. This obviously frustrates me, but sadly, that's football right now.

Regarding the other point: theoratically, you should obviously try to impress the manager all the time, like you said. However, reality is a bit different. After a change of manager, the performances and especially efforts of the players are traditionally high. As time passes by, the performances start to deterioate. That's what I was trying to say.
