"Can we know get to see one?"

Sure. Travel to one. You were just saying how Qatar are rich enough to build all these stadiums. Are their people not rich enough to travel to see the tournament they love? And if not, then why not?

In fact, how many Arabs do you think are going to be in the stands, when this comes around, anyway? It will be the rich princes and the tourists, not the regular people. I'm telling you, the WC in Qatar will not help the Arabian peninsula one bit. It will just, for the umpteenth time, make the Qatari royal family even richer.

That is it.

That's not anything to be proud of, it's not inspiring, and in the case of FIFA, it's disgraceful.

Well the sad story is I can't travel right now. I'm 15 and Egypt's in its worst state of making a "democratic" country. I can't leave my family now. Even if I could, I couldn't bear myself being without them in the new era in Egypt. I wish I could. Like I said, I want to go to the Bahamas but I can't do that either. Some day... But that doesn't mean other Arabs who have the opportunity to be in the stadiums can't go.

Historic or not, these stadiums are going to be a huge plus to this World Cup. It's amazing.

The thing is, though, man, is that the point you're proving isn't that great of one.

Sure, you can find videos of passionate fans. But, if they're so passionate, why are they not going to World Cups etc already? Will they be travelling to Russia (another bad choice) in 2018? If not, then why assume they can afford to go to one in Qatar, especially once all the prices go up because of, you know, the WORLD CUP?

What about people in New Zealand? Why not host a World Cup in New Zealand?

Because it's makes no sense, that's why. The only difference is that New Zealand are not run by an oil-rich monarchy who treat their own people like crap, exploit immigrant workers and are looking to find a new business venture because they know that the oil is drying up.

As for futuristic stadiums... well, seriously, who gives a crap? So we'll get the football stadium versions of the hotels in Dubai -- extravagant, pointless, and lacking in actual atmosphere, instead of the terraces of nations which live and breath the game.

Why? Because, and I can't stress this enough: QATAR ARE NOT A BIG FOOTBALLING NATION.

Ultimately, that is the one, big, and only relevant detail. Everything else is politics and money. It's really quite disgraceful on the part of FIFA that neither the country who have boasted the greatest league in the world for the last decade, nor the country who currently boast the greatest national team of all time... lose out to a tiny country with no league, no stadiums, and to be frank a pretty dodgy human rights record. In every category, I'm sorry, but Qatar do not DESERVE the world's tournament.

Like I said before, let them have the bloody Olympics. That's what the Olympics really IS for. The World Cup is about football, and that's why it doesn't belong in Qatar.

*coughs* As you can tell, I do feel quite strongly about this. >.<

I really do think it's something FIFA should be ashamed of. Sorry dude. :/

Maybe we can make a vote thread on who supports it and who doesn't. Anyway, I'm off to sleep. Pleasure arguing/debating with you.

You too, as always. I think I'm done too; now that I've vented my spleen. ;)

I suspect I am in the minority, opinion-wise, anyhoo, which is perfectly fine by me. Just had to get it off mah chest.

After having a few thoughts about it, hosting the World Cup in Qatar doesn't sound that bad of an idea. The sole purpose of hosting a World Cup is to bring peace to all nations around the world, even if it is a nation that isn't great in football, but football is great in it's nation - so I wouldn't call it a ridiculous idea at all.

But the Euro 2020 idea is just stupid. There is a countless number of reasons why it wouldn't take a genius to think that it's a bad idea. Platini may be a legendary player, but he's just a shit president.

i dont see any problem qatar hosting the world cup at all. just because they dont have a football history doesnt mean they dont have the rights to host a tournament. what if iraq hosted a world cup would you allow it? i think you are just being a racist here we all know qatar is arab country and we all know spurs has a jewish fans
