Champions League | Group Stage Predictions Competition 16/17
VAMOSBenfica 8 years ago

Now that the draw for the 2016/17 Champions League group stage is done, I want to see people's predicitions of how the groups will look after six games. It will be a contest. The rules are very simple: You get 1 point for guessing the correct position of a team. Let's take group A as an example:

Guess:

  1. PSG 2. Arsenal 3. Basel 4. Ludogorets

Reality:

  1. Arsenal 2. PSG 3. Basel 4. Ludogorets

This will give you 2 points, for guessing Basel and Ludogorets correct. In other words, you can get a total of 4 points from each group, and a complete total of 32 points for all groups.

Good luck!

@lio, I'm not surprised by you saying that, because you haven't watched Sporting recently. Otherwise you wouldn't be saying that. I assume you follow La Liga, so let me give you this illustration:

If it was Sevilla, Villareal, Valencia in that same group instead of Sporting, you would give them every chance to finish above Dortmund. Why? Because you follow the teams. I would also give them a good chance to do so. And so do I with Sporting, because I've watched them, and they play quality football that is able to compete with the current Dortmund.

Bottom line: Your claim is ridiculous and proves your opinion is worth nothing because it verifies you have zero knowledge of Sporting as a team. Hope it didn't come across as bitter/hateful, but it's the truth.

You will see what I'm talking about after 6 games. Keep the predictions coming guys.

^maybe sevilla but imo the only teams in the world that could finish above the are barca, real, bayern, and atletico. maybe even city. by the looks of it, you havent watched dortmund ever in your life before.

also another thing: sporting players are inexperienced and all mostly too young and have pretty much no experience against big teams in europe.
dortmund in past 5 years have put up a good fight in tough stages and proven what they can do against big teams like real madrid for example and most of their players have experience and all the players know each other well and play excellent together and have a great manager.

and btw in the portuguese league they only have 2 other teams that are actually any competition whatsoever.

@lio

That right there tells me you didn't watch a single game in the group. You do realize teams can be unlucky and get away with far less than they deserve? Sporting were unlucky this year, simple as that, had they had a little bit of luck they would've secured 3rd place early and be in contention for 1st/2nd.

  • Did you watch the games vs Madrid? No, you didn't because if you did, you'd realize that Sporting were the better team than Real Madrid in BOTH Madrid and Lisbon. That says something. How many teams have geniuenly played better football than RM after two legs of CL football? And yet they got away with 0 points because of three decisive goals by the end of the matches.
  • Did you watch their games vs Dortmund? No, you didn't. Lack of luck, there's nothing else to say.

Not gonna go on a rant, but just - please - watch the games. If you're in doubt, feel free to visit the games' comments: "Sporting this year is the team that plays very good but lose."

One of the worst things I know is ignorant people. I never understood why some choose that way. It just makes people's day more frustrating although it really shouldn't because the truth isn't hard to see.

I shouldn't be writing this, but I ended up doing so out of pure frustration from your ignorance. Not good.

Hey, don't think lio was very ignorant dude. But I understand where you coming from. They did put up a good fight and although loosing 6 of 8 games, they did that with the smallest of margins. While they surprised me and played as good as Dortmund and were on level with RM, a team that would deserve to go through would have definitively beaten Legia in the last game. I can't really remember but I doubt they had a chance to progress at that time anyways, which might explain why they didn't win. All and all had
