Fabio Capello has been named as Russia manager but has
not yet signed a contract, according to the country's football
federation.

"Today we have decided to name Fabio Capello as the manager of
Russia," RFU vice-president Nikita Simonyan told the Itar-Tass agency.

"We are now waiting in Moscow for the finalisation of the remaining details
of the contract before he signs.

"Once (Capello) and his representatives arrive, we believe they will sign the
contract. I think it will happen on Wednesday or Thursday."

The former England, Real Madrid, Juventus, Roma and Milan boss was widely
expected to take over from Dick Advocaat after he was named at the top of the
Russian Football Union's list of potential candidates.

The RFU had praised the Italian following preliminary discussions and he has
been offered a six-year contract which would take him through to the 2018 World
Cup, which Russia are hosting.

"If everything is completed in the best possible way, as the announcement
from the Russian Football Union states, I will be happy and proud," Capello told
Italian news agency ANSA.

"If, as I believe the case will be, all goes as planned in terms of the
contract, it will be a splendid adventure," he added. "Russia are a great
nation."

The 66-year-old had been out of work since resigning from England in February
this year. His management record includes seven Serie A titles - although two of
these were later revoked - and two Liga championships. He also won the Champions
League with Milan in 1994.

His reputation suffered slightly after England's poor performance at the 2010
World Cup, but they qualified for the Euros with ease before he quit following a
row with the FA over the decision to strip John Terry of the England
captaincy.

Russia were seeking a big-name coach following their embarrassing first-round
exit at Euro 2012.
