Best track event for football players?

I have decided to compete with my track team in between football practices. I was wondering which event I should compete in, in order to improve my game. I have great endurance and can run long distance easily. However,I am very slow, and play center-back where speed is vital. Therefore, I want to do sprinting in order to improve, but will be embarrassed and will essentially let my school down. All thoughts are welcome.

100, 200, 400m. I did these events and overtime got a lot better at them. If you want to improve speed, train for those. CB in football is probably the position that requires the least speed, but the more the better of course.

Interesting i would think that you need speed and less stamina as a CB. Because you need to catch those fast forwards on the break. You don't need stamina because a lot of playing CB is just standing around. Playing midfield is where you need stamina the most because you always run for space.

Run the 15m race. You need 99 acceleration!
