Motson: Chelsea’s win v Everton ‘best ever Premier League performance’

BBC commentator John Motson says Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Everton was the best performance he has ever seen in the history of the Premier League.

Goals from Eden Hazard, Marcos Alonson and Diego Costa put Antonio Conte’s side 3-0 up at half time before Hazard and Pedro scored in the second half to complete the victory.

“This was the best 90 minute performance I have ever seen in the Premier League,” Motson said.

“I put it above anything I saw from Arsenal when they were at their best, I put it above anything I saw from Manchester United because this was football on another planet.

“Producing football like that, I’m not going to look any further for the champions,” he added.

This clip is from 5 live Sport, Sunday 6 November 2016 and can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04fdcb2

Personal opinion: Chelsea is 15-0 in the last 5 games. First the game against Hull and I thought that 'hey things are looking better for us'. Followed that up with a brilliant and convincing performance against last year's winners Leicester with a 3-0 win. Great performance. Great game overall. The best I had seen in a long time. Then we go ahead and trash United 4-0. The 2 first goals were rather lucky, but yet another great performance. Next game against a strong Southampton that had just drew City away. 2-0 on away turf. Another great performance. And then came this game against Everton.. It was perfect. Everyone played in symbiosis. Everyone was great. The best game I've seen Hazard do. Our 2 newcomers Luiz and Alonso also performed brilliantly. That people could doubt Luiz.. He's a rock in the back, a born leader. In the end Everton just managed 2 shots in the entire game. Lukaku barely got to touch the ball. Kante had him in his pocket as he had Pogba in the other pocket a while ago. Sorry for bragging, but it was simply beautiful.

16-0 if I'm correct.

Chelsea 5-0 Everton FT:

Shots: 21-1 Pass accuracy: 90%-82% Chances created: 18-1 Crosses: 22-9

Our current starting XI is perfect. I think a few players who fly under the radar like Pedro and Alonso. Both have been 10/10 for all the games they've played in the 3-4-3. And then there's also Azpilicueta, who I believe is the finest defender in the league.

Hazard said this recently.....

"Last season was difficult for me. I tried to be the same player that
I was two years ago,"

"But now I am trying to play like when I was a kid. I am enjoying
playing now, my position is a bit different from before, I go inside
more. It gives me more freedom, and I'm good for the moment."

"Conte has not change a lot, it is just that I have a little bit more
freedom when we have the ball and without the ball."

"Because I don't need to defend against the right-back, because Marcos
Alonso is there. I just focus on staying in my position. And when I
have the ball I have more freedom and I can go where I want to go, and
be decisive."

Honestly, Marcos Alonso is literally everywhere where the ball is on that flank. Without him and Moses the 3-4-3 isn't even an option. If Alonso gets injured, we are in big trouble. It's been a while since we had a left footed LB, anf boy is he showing shades of Ashley Cole.

And take nothing away from Nemanja Matic as well. Cesc has no right to be starting over him. I remember not so long ago when Koeman visited the Bridge to win 3-1 against us, Mourinho pulled Matic out of the game after 20 minuted, absolutely humiliating him. But he's back to his defensive best, and now has 5 assists in the league already!!! Not t mention that it was his searching run and rebounded shot that Costa scored off, against Hull, and his inch-perfect ball which Pedro flicked on for Hazard's goal against Leicester.

Chelsea fans and co. I thought I'd add this in as well

What I'm arguably most happy about is 5 clean sheet in a row!! And guess what, Brana has hardly played except for a couple Halloween Special minutes down at St Mary's. You either leave a hero, or play long enough to see yourself become the villain. It's time to leave Brana. Thanks for everything, but it's time.

Up the Chels!!!

There is no such thing as best ever performance... I hate when people use such a bold empty statement, and I often take the rest of such person's statements less seriously.

With that being said, Chelsea's recent performance has been amazing, seriously envious.

Alonso is incredible, and lots of players have been resurrected including Pedro. Playing 3-4-3 is extremely hard and Conte has done it right so far. And I agree, Azpilicueta looks ridiculously good.

Chelsea's performance against Everton in particular, and in the last 3-4 games in gneral, has been out of this world. Although I'm not ready to brand it the "best" performance of the PL, (a title that is highly subjective) it still shows that Chelsea are genuine title contenders and I'll not be surprised to pip City and others to the title due to their lack of European football this year.

Just fo da fing fo da bling fo da fing bling bling innit bruv, oh sorry I thought I was Rio Ferdinand - anyways EVEN THOUGH Chelsea was F*CKING good, the fact is it was more about Everton being SO POOR. It was one of the most pathetic performances I've seen for a while.

Not even best Chelsea performance, Carlo Ancelotti 8-0 with Drogba, Lampard And co was something different. I also remember the United of Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo...
A promoter is promoting, its his job. Nonetheless Chelsea played some great Football. ( guess people starts understanding the word underachieving I used to say in previous seasons...)

Personal opinion . I guess for him it was the best he has ever seen . To me best I have ever seen Chelsea perform is when we bossed Barcelona in 2005 with Ronaldinho in top form .

^ That was painful to watch 3-0 in 20 Minutes, Ronaldinho to change the game dynamic 3-2 and that late qualifier from Chelsea ( a little controversial for us :) ) quality Football despite not dominating Barca whole 90 min.
The 6-0 of Arsenal was a hammering, but I still think this was the most impressive game for me interm of domination :

Hell yeah i think it's the end of that argument of " whats the point of watching a game while only one team is playing ? " or " its pretty boring " doesn't taste the same when it's the team you support right ? :)
Quality Football, thats the response, QUALITY. If you know that Chelsea is winning the next game you will still want to see how they will make it, and enjoy the proffesionalism of the team who will respect the opponent till the last minute rather than sit back or try to control.

I guess Liverpool fans are as excited as Chelsea now.

I remember that game . I couldn't believe the score but still Wigan was doing pretty bad and barely escaped relegation . That year we were a scoring machine but we also conceded a lot .

Everton is upper top club and beating than 5-0 in full dominant style has more weight than 8-0 against Wigan .

Also , not many if any managed to put 4 goals against Barcelona that year . So I was quiet pleased with fast , furious counter counter attacking football Chelsea displayed that evening .

P.s Notice how Joe Cole even after 7-0 still fights for the ball as if it is 0-0 ! That is the passion i want back in the club and looks like we soon to get it .

Puyol was exactly like that, I remember countless times how Barca was winning by big margin and he was still playing with all he got, at all cost.

We're not used to it. Honestly, think the passion would be lost after a while. I wouldn't want to win every game. And in EPL sooner or later the other clubs that have the same strengths and possibilities as Chelsea would adapt. Right now Chelsea is creating momentum with the new system.. Other teams unsuccessfully tries to copy it already. Spurs last game etc. But after a while, they'll realize what makes it work for Chelsea, and not them. But yeah who doesn't like a top performance every now and then, and Barca is certainly a team that will do just that.

Yeah we are assisting to a general off form from Barça-Bayern-Madrid none of them are the machines they were 2 or 3 years ago, for different reasons but fact is that they are slowly becoming humans with injuries affecting them and off form periods in a game, they arent as invincibles as they used to and it makes the rival feeling it and smelling a little weakness or getting entally stronger during a game. This with the reborn of some English big guns could make things more balanced for next year CL, i still think this year only Atletico Madrid would cause these 3 horses problems but then next year thing may change...

If all chelsea players carry on the same direction, they could outplay any team in the world, of course its a momentum, but if they have a great atmosphere in the dressing room, if the coach keeps them motivated, if Hazard wants to become again best PL player of the season, if Costa keeps his Atletico madrid Form under Conte, if Bench players are pushing for a starting place obliging the starters to keep the high level and stay focused on results, if the chemistry goes better and better with a good transfer policy each transfer market, they could make that GAP between them and the rest that gives them the lead in most of the games...

Its really possible, Conte built Juventus, why not rebuild Chelsea as a constant Europeen force.
