Stats: Benitez v. Mourinho for Chelsea

Manchester United 104 1380

By almost all accounts, Mourinho had Chelsea playing a more productive style of football last season than Benitez did the previous season.

To be honest, we shouldn't expect anything less. You're comparing a pretty good manager to one of the greatest of all time. Undoubtedly Mourinho is expected to come out on top.

Almost all Chelsea fans hate Benitez, but not me. I would like to thank him for what he did as an interim manager. Mou said he would only come back if we finished top 4 and we were threatened for that when Matteo left. However Benitez made sure we got into top 4 with some incredible end of season form, which included a large number of wins in a row in the league and the Europa League title. Mo is much better but Benitez deserves plenty of respect.

Regardless of the statistics, I think Mou did a pretty good job. People bashing his tactics, the players, the results, and Jose himself just want to troll and show their hate on Chelsea FC.
This topic has been debated a lot, but for his first season back at the club, everyone can say that Jose did a good job and that next season is gonna be much better

looking at those statistics, the argument would naturally shift from the coaches comparison, to EPL 2012-2014 level comparison, as it's clear that a more efficient game was needed to end up 3rd anyway, in the last season.
would be curious to know if Benitez would have been able to keep up and still end 3rd.

^+1 good point. My other thought was that the statistics don't necessarily reflect the style and tactics that were employed by either manager.

This is an unfair comparison IMO, surely Mou is one of the greatest and to me he is better than Benitez, I just referring to the stats comparison.

Benitez was in charge of Chelsea with a worse squad + time by his disposal. He was a solution of a crisis time. Mou was a new leader of a new project (and a bit of a crisis time).

Mou has way more support from the fans and the board than what Benitez had.

all these stats don't really matter, the only thing that matters in the end is league position. Mourinho is the better manager, but Benitez shouldn't be belittled. He is a very good manager as well, for what he did in valencia and liverpool. And for what he's doing right now in napoli.

@TheGame
yes your're right, statistics are not the only thing to take into consideration when evaluating a coach or a side.

Why are we even having this comparison?

@eden

Let me give you one of the reasons to hate Benitez .

When Suarez bite Ivanovic , he barely showed any support and acted like he did not see anything and showed total neutrality . Mourinho would have raised the hell if one of his players got into such incident.

Not going to go into details about season , because we were running for 4 titles and after a month under him we were challenging only for one .

Etc . I have no idea why Benitez was chosen to be our manager , and I am not thankful at all .

I don't like Benitez as a person, but I'm saying that he helped Chelsea during his short stint. He did better than any other interim managers available
