@Shpalman

For starters, the Catenaccio is no longer in use. Catenaccio involves man-to-man marking, which is no longer used in favor of zonal marking. Even "parking the bus" is zonal marking, not man-to-man. I believe the last team to use the Catenaccio was the Italian national team sometime in the mid-2000's. Catenaccio was actually very highly respected, as it helped Italy win the 2006 WC, and made Serie A one of the best leagues in the world back in the 90's and early 00's. Unfortunately, the style just wore off as football progressed, so we really won't see a full Catenaccio system anymore.

Parking the bus is looked down upon simply because it's a desperation act. It's quite literally "desperate" defending, as it involves throwing every man (except one) behind not only the ball, but behind the 30 yard line to your goal as well. This type of football is rather, um I don't know how to put this, but "disgraceful". I see no reason to park the bus unless a team is down to 10 men. A red card to your team against extremely superior opposition would give you the ideal (and theoretically correct) time to park the bus (e.g. Chelsea against Barcelona after Terry was sent off). But in general, it just takes all the excitement out of the match, as one team will have 90% possession, and the other team will just get the ball and kick it out, not bothering to counter-attack or set up any form of shot on target (because only one man will not be part of the "bus").

Forgot to respond to your question regarding tiki-taka.

Tiki-taka is not what Barcelona use right now. That is not the true tiki-taka that I came to respect. The real tiki-taka was Guardiola's tiki-taka, which involved a lot of movement, through balls, and brilliant pressing on the ball. Guardiola knew how to work tiki-taka, and after his departure, Barcelona really haven't lived up to that standard. They still knock the ball around, but like you said, it's boring. There's no movement, no intelligent runs, no penetrating through balls, and that's precisely why Iniesta and Xavi are said to be under-performing. Because they have no runs in front of them to pick out.

And of course, tiki-taka is respected because, like the Catenaccio and Total Football, it brought immense amounts of success. How could you not respect it? Parking the bus may have won Chelsea the CL, but remember they had immense amounts of luck on the way. And to be honest (you can answer this question yourself), do you REALLY think that Chelsea are capable of winning the CL again by parking the bus through the entire competition? I don't think so. Tiki-taka, however, won the CL twice (and 12 other trophies in 4 years), and unlike "Parking the bus", tiki-taka was convincing. Barcelona thoroughly beat most of their opponents, but you can't say the same about Chelsea.

Lol im really scared :)...

Well comparing Tiki-taka to parking the bus is brilliant :), i understand that this style of play is hated by fans who are trashed game after game by this style. comparing it to park the bus is completely retarded, cant find other words.

This style came from Futsal, thats why Brazilian players adapt faster to this style of play that demands high skills in every position, even CB and GK. Its team work at its highest level and demands accuracy and skills...

Barça under Pep produced the most spectacular Football i have seen in my life, last year without a coach and without fit players we strugled more but all this years, it was a joy to watch this beatiful football every week.

We can say its completely the oposite of parking bus, as it gives the team the main control of a game, choosing the game speed and finding holes at the oposite of Parking Bus wich is a desperate tactic that only consist into demolishing every build up and highly depends on luck (Karma, Crossbars, World class GK, and no PK given )...

I think Bayern Tiki taka is less beatiful to watch due to skills difference but still highly efficient and destroyed Bundesliga and CL rivals.

bravo, perfectly agree. in fact, to not create any confusion which could lead to stupid flames, it's better that we specify about what we are really talking about, meaning: Beckenbauer is not new to provocative statements, but what did he really mean?

is he talking about the current Barcelona's "tiki-taka", or the Guardiola's one? because if he meant the 2nd, then he confirms to be an old blabbing fart. if he meant the current Barcelona Tiki-taka, then he has good a point.

while Guardiola's current style appear to be an evolution of its previous one (to me at least), the tiki-taka word itself became so associated with Barca, that it basically stuck on them. and i get tricked about that me too, since what i wrote in my previous post was meant to be related to current Barca's style. so now you may understand why i relate the current Barca's tiki-taka, or anyway any form of bland "tiki-taka" wannabe (furious passing, and that's it), to parking the bus.
i'm sure you get what i mean. both "styles" are based on waiting for the opponent.
parking the players waiting forever while passing the ball unproductively and waiting without the ball, without producing nothing as well, that sounds similar to me, doesn't it? ;)
also, both styles are meant to be destructive for the opponent: one doesn't give you the ball, the other doesn't give you spaces. there's many analogies...

**about catenaccio, it's what italians call the modern "parking the bus", simply because we don't have other words for it.
i mean we still use the word even if the style itself changed. today to simplify, everytime a club plays all back and long balls we just call it catenaccio or parking the bus. i know it's not academically correct, but that's just how it is for us :D most of the little clubs in italy play that way.
