hi guys, its been long time since i posted a thread !

we have been lucky to witness the greatness and beautiful football of the current barcelona team, but unfortunately most of us missed on sacchi's milan which i consider to be the best football team of all time , and a lot of football experts think the same.

so if those 2 teams were to face today , which team do you guys think would come as a winner , and could anyone think of a different team capable of beating them both. share ur thoughts

cheers

I'm not a fan of comparing two eras. Everything was different when the two teams played, it's basically impossible to come up with a real baseline for what the standard of "better" is.

If Pele were to play today, as a 20-year old, to the standard where he won all those world cups, he wouldn't get on Newcastle's team. The standard of the times change so much imo it's better to just let sporting legend be sporting legend. Unless it's just obvious when you're watching the best/player team ever (see: Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky)

I am still amazed how amazing was Milan back then! My grandpa was always favorizing Ajax in early '70s though. I read a lot of analysis and I could see why grandpa thought so - Ajax practically won everything possible, and team was filled with legends. I kinda want to watch total football, but I guees it won't happen anytime soon... However, back on Ajax. Cruyff, Neeskens and Krol in one team. The dominance of Ajax in that era. Biggest rivals in those years, Bayern (sadly), were trashed 4-0. So yeah...

People must remember that this AC Milan team was the last one to win back to back UCL...a feat that Barcelona couldn't accomplish! I agree with @Croatian that Ajax was probably the most dominant team in terms of the game. Real won like 6 trophies back in the 50's-60's but I don't think a lot of teams took UCL seriously back then. I think Ajax's academy is probably the best in the world even today.

@ashwin, considering that Ajax average age in team is ~23, and club is still on top of Netherlands, + the squad value makes 1/5th of Eredivisie, I guess I can say that's some quality youth management.

That Milan smashed Barca 4-0 in CL back in the days, but the best midlefied in Football History is in the right.
