Barcelona have been charged by the Spanish High Court for tax fraud in their signing of Neymar from Santos last year.

The Catalan club were hit with news of the latest probe on Wednesday as prosecutors claimed Barca failed to pay a sum of €9.1m owed on a taxable payment of €37.9m, and despite pleading their innocence in a statement released on their website, judge Pablo Ruz revealed on Thursday that the Blaugrana will be charged in court.

The charges concern alleged fiscal irregularities between 2011 and 2013, relating to the Brazilian's controversial transfer.

In a document submitted on Wednesday, prosecutors claimed Barca failed to pay a sum of €9.1m owed on a taxable payment of €37.9m to the player's parents, with the judge considering that Neymar - as a non-Spanish resident - would be obliged to pay tax on that sum in either Brazil or Spain.

"We express our total willingness to collaborate with the Justice authorities in this matter, as we have done since the first moment the issue arose and in any other area in which our presence may be required," Barca's statement read on Wednesday.

A complaint by Barca socio Jordi Cases over the lack of transparency in the controversial deal led to an initial investigation into club president Sandro Rosell and saw the 49-year-old tender his resignation last month.

New president Josep Maria Bartomeu then presented documents at a press conference later that week that broke down the costs of the transfer.

Those revealed that Barcelona had in fact paid out €86.2m in the total cost of the operation, although the Catalan club insisted that the transfer itself remained at the oft-quoted figure of €57.1m.

Bartomeu has vowed to fight all charges in the controversial case.

Quite disappointing to see Barca charged with all of these tax frauds. First it was Messi, but it wasn't really his fault, then Neymar, it wasn't his fault either, but now Barca? This is quite ridiculous.

How was it not Messi's fault? Lol. He knew his money was going to a different account. It's his own money. For Christ's sake, who doesn't keep track of their own earnings? He knew perfectly what he was doing, but he paid everything back, and now he doesn't owe money to anyone anymore. But he still shouldn't have avoided it in the first place.

Never heard of Neymar avoiding taxes, but this tax evasion from Barcelona is most likely because they're in debt of quite a bit of money. They didn't want the public to know that they were overpaying for Neymar, so that's why they keep on insisting they paid only 57 Million.

We dont have owners, its socios who own the club and Jordi Cases is one of them. The direction is voted each 4 years and everyone can ask for every single detail...
Only RM and Barça can be proud of this.

Quite ridiculous ? No. Other clubs directions cant be caught just because fans dont have ANY RIGHTS.
But what Cases did was just great, a small fan caused the departure of a president.
Happy Rossell left thought.

In total, Barca amounts to € 86.2 million in addition to expenses related to the arrival of Neymar in 2013 and others working on the periphery of the operation, without taking into account the guaranteed base salary in player (8.8 million per year). In addition to transferring (57.1 million), the signing bonus the player (10 million) and commission agent (2.7 million), the rest of the total is distributed among various costs: a contract of commercial marketing (4 million), an agreement between the Foundation and the player's club (2.5 million) and options on three young players from Santos, the former club of Brazil (9.9 million).

Dont act like its the only team to do this, if we had access to some teams tranfert issues ( which is impossible for most of non spanish teams ) you could be surprised...

@Tiki

Actually, I highly doubt any English team or German team scuffs their transfer fees like this. It's well beyond obvious that Neymar cost more than 80 Million Euros, but FC Barcelona still refuse to admit it. Madrid tried scuffing the Bale transfer fee at 91 Million Euros, but we all know that it's 100 Million in truth. But Madrid didn't bother scuffing it after Spurs said it was 100. Perez just stopped caring. I don't know what Barca keep insisting it's 57. Just admit it's 86, and move on. Neymar may have a bigger price on his head, but at least Barca would be able to keep their dignity by admitting that they overpaid for him.
